Spontaneity! This story is so Peekskill. Last night at about 8 p.m., I'd just finished work and was wondering what to do for dinner. Low on groceries, I was scrounging in the fridge when my phone rang. It was my friend Lana who asked, "Did you eat yet?" A dinner meeting she was hosting had been cancelled; she had lots of food. I grabbed a bottle of wine and walked over.
Lana inhabits a spectacular space in the Peekskill Art Lofts. (Go see her show - , through Sept 17th.) With her big paintings out showing, her loft is now full of her wonderful paintings & drawings for her upcoming children's book.
Lana's other last-minute dinner guests were filmmaker Nick Cannell, architect Maru Pardo, and sculptor Wilfredo Morel--all of them upbeat, energetic, interesting and engaging. I already knew Nick and Wilfredo, but not that well. Maru was new to me, and I felt an immediate connection with her.
So instead of an evening of leftovers and Netflix, I was suddenly swept up into four hours of food & drink, rapid-fire conversation/hilarity-- and new friendship.
What's unusual is that this is not unusual. Life turns on a dime in Peekskill. Anything can happen. What will today bring?!
