BeanRunner/Trolley Company Wins Best Holiday Window

Contestants voted for the window shown here to win a $500 prize.

The creative window display on the corner of South Division and Park streets won $500 from the Peekskill Business Improvement District on Friday. The owners of that window, Ted Bitter of the and Leslie Masson of the Trolley Company, will use the money for future window designs promoting city events.

The window was one of ten in the competition that decked their window and voted. Local artist Wayne Robinson designed and decorated it. Mayor Mary Foster presented the owners with their award Friday afternoon.

The businesses that were chosen to compete were the ones that volunteered when BID board members informed the downtown businesses about the contest.

The BID first intended to have the public vote but due to time constraints changed the voting so that only the businesses entered in the contest could vote.

“Who better to judge than the contest participants, who understand the trials and tribulations of striving for the best window!” said BID Director Jason Angell.

All stores voted on a scale of 1 to 5 and the Bean Runner/Trolley window received 34 points (The Bean Runner Café/Peekskill Trolley submitted one combined ballot so the voting was one window-one vote).  It was a close contest with 5 other storefronts receiving 30 or 31 total points.

The totals were:

Birdsall House, 31

The Quiet Man Public House, 31

ITI Strategies, 31

The Coop, 30

Energy Movement Center, 30

Peekskill Celebration, 27

Orange Splot Art Spot, 26

Side Effects NY, 26

Bargains Galore, 24

Angell says he hopes to fine-tune the contest for next year and used this year as a way to get something off the ground for next year.

Vote for your favorite storefront in our poll .

Merry Christmas Eve!

I guess beauty is in the eye of the judges; personally thought that the Quiet Man pub should have gotten the award. The lights and trees outsidelook stunning, esp when lit up at nite. Let the public decide next year.

So Ted Claxton and Leslie McGowan won the "contest"-- no surprises there to anyone who knows anything about the BID and the machinations of insider Peekskill politics. This was a closed event and only the competitors could vote FOR THEMSELVES. Not only that, but there was no criteria as to whether or not your window even had to be artfully decorated or decorated at all-- just look at some of them, like Bargains Galore for example. Why weren't some of the truly beautiful store windows featured?? "Resouled" by Bess has had outstanding windows all year long, yet she wasn't given a chance, because the BID can never get anything right, even if they've been doing it for the past 10 years. Once again, the Downtown merchants have gotten screwed and politicians get to make political and financial capital off of our backs. By the way, what were the results of the unbiased Patch poll of who had the best windows??

the news system has been a horror since day one.. nothing was wrong with the old system..new systemRead More Not User friendly at all.. in fact it discourages users.. the format is confusing..can never find the articles once posted again... bring it back.. who ever made this decision should be fired.. lets see if this gets posted..

@Ashley, I posted a comment on my own announcement and it disappeared twice..

Ashley, do you live here in Peekskill? I second what Jo said, the ''new'' patch design is really aRead More horror, although I realize that is not your responsibility. While I think the former editor, Rasheed, probably let some things stand that might be considered rude/mean, how many comments are actually being deleted, versus hitting a tech glitch? I post on yahoo, about half my comments don't make it. Seems the longer I have the comment window open the less chance it gets posted. so that is a tech bug not censorship.

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over

Working Families Party almost always cross endorses with Democrats. Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative. Anyway, I believe Catalina is campaigning as anti-gay rights, so I know how I will be voting.
