It is difficult going out for a walk or run when cars are splashing up sludge on you! True. Very true. I may have fallen once or twice on a patch of ice and then jumped up to look around and find out how many people witnessed my wipeout! But winter weather doesn't have to be a workout killer if you don't have a gym membership. Haven't you seen people speed walking at the JV Mall? They are burning up calories while everyone else is using the bad weather as an excuse to NOT work out.
Here are some other ways to kill winter calories instead of killing your winter workout! - Check out your fitness channels. There are a ton of 20-30 minute workouts included in your cable package! Denise, Susan, Zumba, Gilad (love him!) I have even seen a belly dance exercise show for your core. Find something you can handle once or twice a week and DVR it! - Shoveling heavy snow is the PITS!!! But it is exercise. All that pushing and lifting is moving muscles around and making you sweat. Hit the hills with your kids to boot. Don't have a kid? Borrow your neice or nephew and trudge up the hills with them and get that rugged workout in! Jog in place at home. Who says you have to be on some fancy track? When you are winding down at night watching American Idol, jog in place! Jog around the house on commercials. 30 minutes will fly by.
Okay speedwalkers - maybe those people at the mall are onto something! Throw on a hat, put the baby in the stroller and off ya go! Who says you have to gain "winter weight"? If it is dry out hit the pavement after bundling up. It is better to be cold and throw on a jacket then to be all sweaty in the summer - gross!
