50 Percent of Men Will Get Cancer in Their Lifetime

Movember's over. Did you learn anything?

I have many things for which to be thankful, and this is a good week to review them. I won't go through them all, but let's just say that one of them is *NOT* my family history of cancer.

Among the health tips for men that are part of the Movember awareness-building efforts is one that says: know your family history.  This holiday season, consider taking a few minutes when you're with your family to find out about the chronic health conditions your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles have experienced, and then share this information with your doctor at your next annual physical.  This can help even fitness-minded men know what to be on the lookout for in the future.

One of the things that I am thankful for is the Movember campaign.  It seems to get more popular each year and continues to be a great opportunity to draw some modest attention to improving men's health.  We have raised some money to fight prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and ignorance of men's health.

And we've given our spouses, friends, neighbors and total strangers a chance to comment on how we look with a moustache.  Comments I've received recently include, "How long do you have to keep that thing?"

My response was, "today is the last day."  So, if you have made a donation, thank you very much.  If you want to get one in before the deadline, go to http://us.movember.com/m/238501 today to donate.  If you're not interested in donating, I'd still love to know why.  Leave a note in the comments.  If you even read any of my Movember posts, I'd love to know.  Drop me a line or leave a comment.
