GOP Officials Warn: 'Don't Let Our Party Be Hijacked'

Republican officials warn GOP primary voters about the Jim Russell candidacy.

WESTCHESTER AND ROCKLAND REPUBLICAN OFFICIALS WARN PRIMARY VOTERS: "DON'T LET OUR PARTY LINE BE HIJACKED"

Urge Voters to Support Joe Carvin on June 26

White Plains, NY-June 14...Westchester and Rockland Republican and Conservative Party officials today gathered at a news conference to warn June 26 Primary voters that a man named Jim Russell, who will appear on the ballot for Congress, has been disavowed by the Republican Party. Mr. Russell has published and/or promoted materials widely deemed to be white separatist and anti-Semitic.

The Republican and Conservative Party officials strongly urged voters to turn out to vote on Tuesday, June 26th -- and to make sure that they support Joe Carvin for Congress. Mr. Carvin is unanimously backed by the Rockland and Westchester Republican and Conservative parties.

"The views of Mr. Russell are anathema to the Republican Party and we must not let him hijack our ballot line," said Westchester GOP Chairman Doug Colety. "Mr. Russell's writings have no place in Congress or in any other public office. We feel it necessary to warn those voting in the June 26thprimary of Mr. Russell's background."

"It's deeply unfortunate that we are even in a position to hold this press conference, but the serious nature of the situation demands that we inform voters of Mr. Russell's views," said Rockland Republican Chairman Vinnie Reda. "We are the party of Abraham Lincoln and have zero tolerance for bigotry. Westchester and Rockland Republicans have a great candidate in Joe Carvin and we strongly urge voters to support him. He will make us proud."

"Every voter of good will should support Joe Carvin in the Republican primary," said Westchester Conservative Party Chairman Hugh Fox.  "Mr. Russell has disqualified himself as a credible candidate and people must know the truth about his views before heading into the voting booths. He does not have our support in this campaign."

"I was shocked to learn the nature of Mr. Russell's writings," said New York State Assembly candidate Kim Izzarelli. "We need voters to understand that Mr. Russell's views are not tolerated by our Party. Our goal is to make that message loud and clear so there are no surprises on Election Day."

You left out the part that he said he would support Nitwit Lowey if he lost the primary. Also, why did you vote for Obama?
George C June 15, 2012 at 12:47 pm
Send a message to the party bosses. They worked to get him disqualified from the ballot.
Check out write in candidate Frank Morganthaler http://www.frankmorganthaler.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7I6_Dwtbmg

I can rest easy, having been assured that Joe Carvin, the Nita Lowey supporting, Agenda 21 advocating, Obama endorsing RINO is the right GOP candidate for NY-17. After all, I have the word of those two bastions of integrity and credibility, Vinny Reda and Doug Colety, upon which to depend...
Watchdog June 15, 2012 at 07:09 pm
Carvin is a Democrat and so is his wife. Theyboth voted for BH OBAMA. Vinny Reda again sold outthesoul of the Republican Party to theDemocrats so they can unseat David Colluci who has a mind of his own...not good if uou don't follow Party slime. iI do not agree with some of positions but at least I know where he stands. I am a Republican for Collucci.

In this story today we read "WESTCHESTER AND ROCKLAND REPUBLICAN OFFICIALS WARN PRIMARY VOTERS: "DON'T LET OUR PARTY LINE BE HIJACKED". In another story in PATCH today we read what ex-Ossining trustee Janis Castaldi (Dem) writes "I was honored to stand beside Joe Carvin today at his press conference." Seems like only yesterday she was *honored* to be chosen by her Dem cronies.
Instead of mud-slinging an opponent, how about telling the people what your chosen candidate will do to make our lives better? As always, I'll vote for the person and not the party.
JM June 15, 2012 at 09:38 pm
Chris: Instead of mud-slinging an opponent, how about telling the people what your chosen candidate will do to make our lives better?
That statement is worth repeating. Over and over and over and over and over and over again.... until someone actually listens.
Jeanine Vecchiarelli June 16, 2012 at 01:37 am
Very true...except that the person should represent the principles of the party which is running him/her. One need only look at the websites of the two GOP line candidates you mention to know that they belong on the Democratic line, NOT the GOP one. And yet the GOP officials warn about the party being hijacked. Contrary to what Reda said, Castaldi was never brought up in committee. Her petitions just appeared in the packets that went out. Meanwhile, the bosses are maligning a candidate who legally petitioned his way onto the ballot. And another true GOP candidate adhered to genuine party principles so well that the big bosses arranged to have his name thrown off the Primary ballot altogether. He apparently didn't look like a candidate they could control. Hmm...looks like the foxes are guarding the hen house yet again...

Mr. Carvin said that he would support Rep. Lowey if Mr. Russell won the primary. That's an entirely different proposition from stating that he would support Rep. Lowey if he lost the primary. For example, he did not indicate that he would support Rep. Lowey if his other rival won the primary.
JM June 16, 2012 at 12:16 pm
Jeanine... how does one define the principles of the party locally when they can't even do it nationally? Ron Paul, like him or not, is the closest to GOP's founding principles, but apparently only 12% of us ''got it'' and voted for him in primaries.
Mike June 16, 2012 at 01:31 pm
This allegiance to party over allegiance to country and what is in bet interest of the nation has become IMO the root cause for the corruption of our political system. No less than our 1st POTUS warned the nation of the dangers posed by political parties in his farewell address. He accurately predicted that self serving party ideologues would high jack our democracy and he was 100% correct. How do we reverse this? When you look at opinion poll after opinion poll, more Americans are moving away from party affiliation to that of independent. In addition, even those that are still registered with a party are not always voting along those lines. Maybe that is the answer.
Conservative NYer June 16, 2012 at 02:27 pm
So Mr. Morganthaler is NOT on the primary ballot? Can you do a sign in for the primary? Interesting that I just received a whole bunch load of petitions for Mr. Carvin to collect signatures. I have sent them back to HQ's since I have now lost faith in the Republican Party... Interesting that Mr. Carvin's wife has given $$ to Dear Leader Chairman MaoBama's reelection campaign if indeed that is a fact.... I don't know much about Mr. Carvin and see I need to do my homework to see if he fits the RHINO mold....
Conservative NYer June 16, 2012 at 02:34 pm
So according to this article Mr. Carvin VOTED FOR Dear Leader Chairman MaoBama?? How in the world can a "REPUBLICAN" vote for the opposite party. It's not even like MaoBama is a JFK Democrat. The more research I do the worse it gets..... Guess I won't be voting for Mr. Carvin..

Jeanine Vecchiarelli June 16, 2012 at 04:22 pm
JM AND Mike: I agree fully. The parties are the vehicles by which these corrupt bosses have co-opted our whole nation. I believe they do need to be abolished. That said, it can't be done overnight. We need to start by taking back the parties from those bosses, who make Boss Tweed look as pure as the wind driven snow. We need to purge the Democratic party of the communists who now occupy its ranks, and bring the Republican party back to its conservative roots. That is step one, and it is accomplished through petitioning our way into the committee seats for each party. It is the duly elected -- NOT PARTY BOSS APPOINTED -- committeeman who vets and nominates candidates...INCLUDING THE PARTY BOSSES. The petition process is going on as I write this. If you want to effect the change that will begin the process of saving our nation, find the duly elected committee persons in your party, or contact John Darash, for information: http://newyorkcommitteemen.org/contact/contact.htm

VINNY can smell that Carvin money a mile away. DADDY NEEDS A NEW PEA COAT!
Bjorn Olsson June 17, 2012 at 03:17 pm
The fanaticism expressed here is almost incredible. You try to paint Obama as some kind of communist totalitarian, and yet you are outraged that a Republican could ever vote for someone outside his party. I have no idea who this guy is, but it seems he is able to think for himself and vote for whomever he thinks will do a good job rather than who Fox and Grover tells him to vote for.
Walden Macnair June 17, 2012 at 03:45 pm
How unfortunate that the right wing holds such views. If you don't agree with them you are a communist, socialist or anarchist. What happened to the Republican Party? What happened to Ronald Reagan, George H Bush and even Eisenhower's leadership and ability to accomplish goals through working with the opposing party. Now we hear this extremest drivel from a bunch of old men who have no eye for the future and no concern for the children but instead focus on their political careers, enriching corporations and groveling at the feet of Grover Norquist. How sad.

Patch, I would like to see this assay or any so called racist writings by Russell so I can decide for myself. Just hearing from a guys apponent isn't enough.
Don Sutherland June 18, 2012 at 12:19 pm
John,
You can find Mr. Russell's racialist commentary here: http://www.toqonline.com/archives/v1n2/TOQv1n2Russell.pdf http://polhudson.lohudblogs.com/2010/09/21/jim-russell-on-housing-desegregation/

YES HE DID
Joe Carvin maybe the best the republican party has to offer, but he did fail to pay over $90,000 in state income taxes three of the last six years–that's a fact. And he did vote to elect President Obama, who has a current approval rating of 12% among republicans: http://www.gallup.com/poll/155042/Obama-Averages-Job-Approval-May.aspx. You can view Mr. Carvin's tax warrants and Obama Vote Mea Culpa video at: http://www.lausdeo10580.com/

@Ashley, I posted a comment on my own announcement and it disappeared twice..
JM June 18, 2013 at 12:10 pm
Ashley, do you live here in Peekskill? I second what Jo said, the ''new'' patch design is really aRead More horror, although I realize that is not your responsibility. While I think the former editor, Rasheed, probably let some things stand that might be considered rude/mean, how many comments are actually being deleted, versus hitting a tech glitch? I post on yahoo, about half my comments don't make it. Seems the longer I have the comment window open the less chance it gets posted. so that is a tech bug not censorship.

they put them out bottom window to do their"business" right under several of our decks.Read More they are very rude and unhygenic.

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over
Wendy Kelly June 17, 2013 at 08:37 am
