Carvin Deplores Democrat's Platform Omission of Jerusalem as Israel's Historic Capital

Joe Carvin says it is "disappointing" that Congresswoman Nita Lowey voiced no protest over DNC platform change on Jerusalem as Israel's historic capital.

STATEMENT BY RYE TOWN SUPERVISOR AND CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE JOE CARVIN ON OMISSION OF JERUSALEM AS
ISRAEL'S HISTORIC CAPITAL IN DNC PLATFORM

September 5, 2012

"The Democratic Party under President Obama has made it official: It wants to sever Jerusalem from the Israeli state.

"The omission of Jerusalem as Israel's historic capital in the Democratic Party platform is a slap in the face to all those who support America's closest ally in the Middle East.

"It is deeply disappointing that Congresswoman Nita Lowey voiced no protest while this significant language change was being made in her party's platform.  Words matter, and this language change speaks volumes about where the Democratic Party under this president is headed.

"Voters of all religions who love and support Israel will have something to say about this at the ballot box."

Karen September 6, 2012 at 11:13 am
America first Joe Carvin! How on God's good Earth has Israel become so important to the American political structure. Shame on you for submitting to the pressure. Lets all vote with The United States of America on our mind, lets all vote for the policies that will keep it strong. Lets at the very least vote for a man who has the backbone to state what he will actually do. Barack Obama!! America first!
Issy September 6, 2012 at 11:43 am
What utterly hyperbolic partisan nonsense. I would think that most Americans would just want peace in the Middle East and having a dogmatic stance regarding Jerusalem does nothing to achieve this goal
We should be supporting a solution not dictating the terms. Shameful Joe, really shameful and dishonest, you have really stooped to a political low.
George Datino September 6, 2012 at 11:56 am
Well, I guess it was much to do over nothing. The Democratic Party decided to add God and Jerusalem back onto their platform and if you watch the vote, they added it over the will of the voting delegates.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/05/dnc-god-jerusalem-platform_n_1859200.html?utm_hp_ref=politics Listen, I could care less if they have them on their platform but what was telling was how do you pass this resolution that clearly did not have the 2/3's majority needed to pass? Simply a slap in the face to all the delegates who were there and participated. The DNC leadership obviously must feel it knows better than their own constituents and if the vote doesn't turn out the way they want, they simply pretend like it did.
Mike September 6, 2012 at 12:36 pm
Backbone? Please Karen? This is a POTUS who can't even manage his own political party's platform in a cogent manner. The Dems had at leat one year of preparation for this convention and it's platform statements. In the matter of what 24 hours, they make a significant changes in two planks. We are talking the ME here- one of the most dangerous places on earth- a powder cake ready to explode and Obama flips and flops changing policy based upon polls. Its sends a message of weakness to friend and foe alike.
Mike September 6, 2012 at 12:40 pm
No one is saying its a dogmatic stance Issy. How about a solid statement of our position instead of the vacillation and ever changing policy based upon political polls?
When your policy changes, then you really don't have a policy and this is a weakness and creates a vacuum that will be filled by others.
Walt September 6, 2012 at 12:47 pm
Really Karen, really!?? "America first" and you are supporting a President that publicly bows to foreign leaders? Many US soldiers died to make sure that our President bows to no one and obama has, MORE THAN ONCE!
Just make it up as you go along, just like the DNC and their platform.
Issy September 6, 2012 at 01:11 pm
Mike, the only policy we should have is supporting peace and democracy, not dictating the terms or conditions between other nations. Inflexibility is a weakness and who is to say any supposed vacuum will not be filled by those less dogmatic and more willing to compromise/seek a lasting solution rather than play partisan politics with the lives of others.
BG7 September 6, 2012 at 01:15 pm
Just embarrassing. Rye voters are far more level-headed than Carvin. he's hurting himself here.
Issy September 6, 2012 at 01:18 pm
Walt don't be ridiculous, Bush did the same and kiss the Pope's ring. It is all scripted.
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 01:50 pm
HEY KAREN they knocked out GOD too.
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 01:53 pm
Denocratic Pkatform....GOVERNMENT HELPED YOU.......GOD HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE OR YOUR SUCCESS. Yeah, maybe they believe that in NY and Calif. but no where else.
Mike September 6, 2012 at 02:23 pm
You mean like the Muslim Brotherhood that has fiiled teh void in Egypt, the wacko Ayatollahs in soon to be nuclear Iran, and the Russian supported dictator in Syria. And we are not talking about inflexibibility and compromise here. We are talking about fundamental principals and doctrine that protects the interest of the US. Flip-flopping and changing your policy at a whim is weakness and it is why the ME is in teh shape it is in. Remember the so called goodwill tour Obama made to all those ME and Muslim countries soon after he became POTUS. That's really helping us now- eh? I mean look at the realtionship and respect these countries have for us. Waffling and cowtowing to people who seek to destroy us and our allies is weakness and puts more lives injeopardy than a solid well stated foreign policy. While Obama is being crowned again tonight, his Sec of State is in China being berated by the country that seeks to dominate the world- China.
Walden Macnair September 6, 2012 at 02:29 pm
Israel has been and will continue to be an Allie of the United States. This is one thing that should not be a political ping pong ball and the Republicans making it one is disingenuous at best and destructive to our relationship at worst.
When it comes to the current administration, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ehud Barak said Monday that when it comes to his nation’s security, the Obama administration is doing “more than anything that I can remember in the past.” Why don't we all agree that both Republicans and Democrats have always supported Israel and let's move on to things that really matter.
Issy September 6, 2012 at 02:40 pm
Mike, The Iraq war did more to harm American interest in the Middle East than any silly platform on Jerusalem. Actions speak louder than words. Iran is embolden and Iraq is now their alley and we have lost any chance to form a coalition against Iranian nuclear ambition.
Obama is just doing damage control and Republicans talk of bombing Iran is detrimental to peace. As for Egypt we have yet to see what the Muslim Brotherhood will do. It is going to take more than four years to fix the Republicans economic disaster at home and probably decades to repair the damage aboard.
Robert Smith September 6, 2012 at 02:41 pm
Hey Watchdog you know where else that doesn't appear one single time? The U.S. Constitution go figure!
Aidan September 6, 2012 at 02:51 pm
Karen, stop practicing ostrich politics. If your sense of the world is so parochial, then confine you smallness to votes on curb-spending and manhole replacement.
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 03:10 pm
Pure baloney.
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 03:13 pm
DEMOCRATIC Platform....Government gave you everything .....GOD gave you nothing!! The AYES did NOT have it. They voted AGAINST GOD. LOUD AND CLEAR.
Walden Macnair September 6, 2012 at 03:34 pm
Dog,
What part don't you believe? Or is it just your ranting about God being a Republican commodity?
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 03:36 pm
WALDO...Never thought of GOD as a commodity. Nit surprised you do though.
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 03:41 pm
DEMOCRATS....Give us more government and less GOD....that ought to attract a lot of independents.
Walden Macnair September 6, 2012 at 04:08 pm
Erecting the 'wall of separation between church and state,' therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society.” Thomas Jefferson
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 04:43 pm
You already have your own personal Wall..so what is your problem? It must be a very comfortable feeling to know that human beings will solve all your problems. Didn't work for me but hey whatever floats your boat WALDO. Ya know wad I mean?
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 04:44 pm
Besides WALDO Jeff said church, not GOD.
Watchdog September 6, 2012 at 04:46 pm
Must go now WAKDO, I will say a prayer for you. OK?
Walt September 6, 2012 at 05:08 pm
Kissing the Pope's ring? What foreign nation does the Pope rule? You are really in denial to compare the Pope to the King of Saudi Arabia, the Chinese Premier and the Japanese Emperor among others. And you call me ridiculous. The Democrats will soon have you waiting on your drive way for space ships to take you to a better place if they tell you to.
leesther brown September 6, 2012 at 05:12 pm
The Devil is clever, deceiving us all.He cause's the strongest to fall.We his sly methods to discern by making God's warning our daily concern,it's a sin to go behind the hidden door of secrecy and do things to dishonor the Lord this latest fiasco of God is in or out only shows that their Integrity is a Myth, and their many testimonies for Jesus into a sham. Each sin has it's door of entry it would serve both parties, and the US well to keep that door closed......
Issy September 6, 2012 at 05:32 pm
Walt are you serious? The Pope is a head of State and the Vatican is considered a separate country. Oh and Bush bowed to the Saudi King as well.
As for spaceships taken us away, I prefer to work to make this planet better for everyone not just the rich.
K.Cobain September 8, 2012 at 08:16 pm
I have to agree Karen.. if we are not careful our nation is going to find itself in another war because of Israel.

This is for Kevin- You are really missing out on a big local audience, namely, Putnam Valley. WeRead More are like the forgotten stepchild even though we are part of the same community as Cortlandt and Peekskill. You guys really need to start giving us some coverage, and if you need a reporter, I will send in my resume. Better yet, you can read all my many comments in the PCP. There's a lot going on here that nobody writes about that would be interesting to many readers.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over
Wendy Kelly June 17, 2013 at 08:37 am
