On Monday, the 14th of May, Liz Giegerich came to Peekskill High School to talk to the Mercury staff about online journalism. She discussed how she came to be a journalist, and her current job working for the Patch. Liz explained that going into college, she had not planned to be a journalist, instead she had worked to recieive a degree in communciations. How she came to be a journalist was through the world-wide catastrophie of Hurricane Katrina. The college she attended was located in New Orleans which gave her the “inside scoop” as to what was actually going on. She explained that she was inspired to write by the people and events around her, and that is what ultimately lead to her job at the Patch. She inspired the Mercury staff to continue our writing because never before had we realized that we could have a job in journalism. We thank Liz Geigerich for sharing her story with us, so now we can create stories of our own.
