The members of the Environment Club have a mission this year; they are sponsoring a dog named Becca, at the Animal Rescue Foundation in Beacon, New York.  They have been collecting bottles for return and sending the money to the shelter.  As of March 12th, they have raised $125.00.

On Saturday, March 3rd. we went to the shelter to meet Becca.  We were given lessons from the dog trainer, Liz who volunteers at the shelter.  We learned about the work of volunteers at the shelter and the care for both cats and dogs who live there.  This is a no-kill shelter and has flown animals in from around the country; some live their entire lives here.

After we went to the cat sanctuary where 144 cats live until they find good homes.  Members learned from the director about various types of cats and their care.  All the members learned a great deal and enjoyed all the animals at both locations.

Next, we went to see the falls that are part of Wappinger Creek and then saw the Beacon Incline and learned about its history.

From there we went to lunch and enjoyed pizza and garlic knots.  We are still collecting bottles for Becca.  We are planning a trip to the Walkway Cross the Hudson for spring and a trip to Niagara Falls in October of 2012.

A special thank you to Liz from ARF and  Mrs. Capozzelli for joining us on our trip.
