Jennifer and Jenesis are the only children of their parents, Angel and Maria Gallego. They have always attended Peekskill Schools all the way through, performing at the top of their class throughout high school. Both girls were elected to the National Honor Society in their junior year. Both have pursued a strong interest in science and participated in Peekskill’s Authentic Science Research program for the past three years. Jennifer’s project is on the maternal brain or pregnancy on the adolescent brain and Jenesis studied the diet’s relationship with acne.

Jennifer is particularly interested in math, art, and engineering, and will be pursuing her interests at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for college, with the intention at this point of majoring in general engineering. Jenesis is interested in arts and sciences and will attend New York University, with a probable major in Architecture.

Outside of school, the two young women are interested in Aikido, traveling, and community service, which they hope to do throughout the summer.

Salutatorian- Jenesis Gallego

The honor was a surprise, according to Jennifer: “Honestly, I haven’t really thought I would become valedictorian. From day one in high school, I worked hard and strive to do my best in everything I did simply because it was something instilled in me by my parents.” Jenesis adds: “I didn’t even know what a valedictorian or a salutatorian was until well into my high school career. I’m pleased to have the honor of being the salutatorian and the daughter of very proud parents.”

Also speaking at graduation will be Stephanie Gil, President of the Student Council, and Kwasi Yeboah, Senior Class President.
