Words Fail Me

Words do have meaning. Compare GOP and Dem campaign press releases.

Have you noticed that Peekskill’s Grand Old Party always discovers, shortly after the Washington Republican whizz-kids come up with their latest buzz words, that the very same attack words miraculously fit local Democrats? My favorite this year is “failed.”  You’ve no doubt heard the GOP big shots you see on TV talking about how our President’s “policies have failed.” on Meet the Press, FoxNews, CNN, you name it. Now, don’t get me wrong. They have a right to say these things because our Constitution awards the greatest latitude to political speech. That’s a good thing, messy though it is. In a free market of ideas, good ideas do tend to drive out the bogus and the misguided.

In a recent press release (http://www.peekskillgop.com/) our local Republicans are falling right in line with their Washington brethren again. Really, you have to read it for yourself, and while you’re at it, read their other press releases. It’s as if the anonymous bloggers who trashed our city for the last four years on the LoHud Forum have hacked into the GOPeekskill website. They tag our mayor with all kinds of “failure” plus “lies, betrayal," and much, much more. You get the idea, an operatic tour de force that would be laughable if it was not drafted by some folks who are asking us to grant them real power.

I know it’s a lot of work, but please do read these GOP press releases and compare their view of Peekskill to what you see with your own eyes. Compare the GOP website’s offerings to those of the Democrats (http://www.peekskilldems.com/).  Ask yourself which group has a positive vision for our future.  Ask yourself which group can reasonably be expected to find creative solutions to our community’s problems. Most important, ask yourself which group you want to trust with the power of government in Peekskill.
