Sauce for the Gander
Candidates must earn the voters' respect in many ways. One way is being willing to admit to a mistake.
Three days after a public-record document proved that Tony Washington was mistaken in blaming the utility tax on Mary Foster, I pointed out in my blog that a correction and apology was in order.* That was on Oct. 25 and the voters are still waiting for Mr. Washington to make any statement at all. As the election grows very close, the voters can’t be made to wait so long for comment from candidates on such matters. I hope he will step up now.
I hope Mike Kane will also step up. The Fair Campaign Practices Committee found yesterday that Mr. Kane made two mistakes in his campaign literature that could be misleading to voters,** as Mr. Washington’s mistake also could be. (The Committee is an independent volunteer group that fields complaints from any and all candidates about possible unfair campaign practices.) I hope Mr. Kane will soon issue a statement accepting the Committee’s ruling and apologizing to the voters.
