The Prospector: Shaffer, Guerrieri Lead the Way as Renegades Blank Vermont 2-0

Richie Shaffer hits his first professional home run and Taylor Guerrieri posts his first victory as a Renegade as Hudson Valley shuts out Vermont 2-0.

Wednesday, Aug. 8—Richie Shaffer’s fourth-inning solo home run provided all the firepower the Renegades needed as they shut out the Vermont Lake Monsters 2-0. Shaffer also singled home the Gades’ other tally, in the sixth. The shutout was Taylor Guerrieri’s first Hudson Valley victory and moved the Gades three games ahead of second-place Brooklyn in the McNamara Division. Please click here to read the game story on the Gades’ Web site.

Shaffer’s home run to left, his first as a professional, traveled 364 feet.

Tonight was Adult Hat Night, with adults receiving nice-looking red caps with white stitching. I also exchanged my chit for one of the bobbleheads of Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, which had finally arrived at The Dutch.

As I took my seat I scanned the net for the praying mantis but the insect, which was the center of so much attention last night, was nowhere to be found. Hope it made it to a safe location.

Edwin and his family were back in the Interstate Battery seats and we had nice conversation throughout the evening. He has coached the boys in Little League ball and they are really enthusiastic about the game.

I responded enthusiastically to a brief version of the Chicken Dance in the bottom of the sixth, to which Big Steve shouted, “That’s beautiful!”

I signed the Fleischmans’ tickets for the scavenger hunt, which boosted my signature total to five.

In the parking lot first baseman Luke Maile joined the gathering by the corral fence and shook hands all around before heading off with Paige, who was down from Amsterdam.

Jim, the Angry Met Fan, accompanied by young Randy, was marking his 47th birthday today, and we were pleased to help him celebrate. Adding to the celebration were the remaining party mix, the Canning pretzels and leftover pans of watermelon slices, bunless hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. It was not exactly standard birthday party fare but we sure had a nice time.

While walking to my car to get munchies I paused at the spot where the fox was killed yesterday. The remains had been properly removed but other signs of the incident were still noticeable. I paused briefly and offered a prayer. Later, we saw another fox scampering about the parking lot on its nightly rounds. I hurled a hamburger in its direction and, while we could not be sure, several of us thought we saw something resembling a burger in shape in the animal’s mouth as it ran off.

As part of an effort to get home earlier, get to bed earlier and get up earlier I left around 11:45 and arrived home about 12:20 a.m. After a few chores I settled in to watch the BBC World News at 1 and promptly dozed off for more than an hour, after which I headed for the shower. I finally went to bed after 3, as usual, but my intentions were good and I was 1-for-3.

Next home game: Thursday, Aug. 9 vs. Vermont Lake Monsters, first pitch 7:05 p.m.

Ashley, do you live here in Peekskill? I second what Jo said, the ''new'' patch design is really aRead More horror, although I realize that is not your responsibility. While I think the former editor, Rasheed, probably let some things stand that might be considered rude/mean, how many comments are actually being deleted, versus hitting a tech glitch? I post on yahoo, about half my comments don't make it. Seems the longer I have the comment window open the less chance it gets posted. so that is a tech bug not censorship.
shakemdown June 19, 2013 at 12:03 am
@ASHLEY TARR my comments that i posted did not contain profanity nor did they harrass or abuseRead More anyone, they were just what the forum is for, to discuss issues within our city. but i know, some people would consider it harrasment or would try to have it deleted because the truth hurts, and that's what some of our elected officials don't want you to hear, (the truth)
shakemdown June 19, 2013 at 12:06 am
@jo you are right, the old web site was 100% better then this and it was more user friendly unlikeRead More this new one . BRING BACK THE OLD ONE

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over

Agree Joshua just when you have a good thing going with an Editor they move. I can't figure thisRead More site out I was not allowed to post for at least a week thought Mary et al put an hex on me. Hey anyone know where Peter Goodson is??? I miss his posts.

Working Families Party endorsed candidate Mary Foster
Robin Seggs June 14, 2013 at 10:44 am
Working Families Party almost always cross endorses with Democrats. Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative. Anyway, I believe Catalina is campaigning as anti-gay rights, so I know how I will be voting.
jo June 14, 2013 at 02:28 pm
and so many in the cast of characters that attend the meetings. believe Mary is a republican atRead More heart.. and here the Left of all left dem groups endorses here..mmmmmmmm just thinking out loud..
