Hudson Valley Hospital Center Opens “Ginger’s Place” Boutique at Annual Cancer Survivor Event

Cortlandt Manor, NY - (May 27, 2014) – As part of a national month-long celebration honoring cancer survivors, the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Cancer Center at Hudson Valley Hospital Center will hold a special event on May 29.

The President’s Annual Reception for Cancer Survivors and their Families will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Cancer Center. All cancer survivors and their families, even those who are not patients at the Hospital, are invited to attend the celebration.

At this year’s event, the Hospital will dedicate a new boutique to serve the medical and beauty needs of women being treated for cancer. The new boutique – Ginger’s Place – will provide wig and bra fittings as well as beauty products and care information for women undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The boutique was made possible with the generous support of Hospital Board member Michael Delfino and his wife, Ginger.

“It is very fitting that we dedicate this boutique as part of our Survivor Day celebration. As a comprehensive cancer center, our primary mission is to provide not only medical treatment, but emotional and social support to our patients,’’ said Hudson Valley Hospital President John Federspiel. “We cannot thank Mike and Ginger Delfino enough for making it possible for us to offer this additional support to our patients and to all women undergoing cancer treatment.’’

Anne Campbell-Maxwell, Director of Oncology at the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Cancer Center, said she hopes that the event will provide cancer survivors with a chance to celebrate their spirit of hope and courage with friends, family, and one another.

“This is an opportunity for them to connect and share these experiences with other cancer survivors, friends and family,’’ she said. “We invite the community to attend and be part of this very moving event.’’

June is National Cancer Survivors Month, a time when many hospitals and cancer support organizations hold events in solidarity with America’s 13.5 million cancer survivors. This time of recognition provides an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize the healthcare providers, family, and friends who have supported them along the way. A 'survivor' is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life," according to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation.
