Hudson Valley Hospital Center Appoints Three to Board

Cortlandt Manor, NY - (May 5, 2014) – Hudson Valley Hospital Center has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors.

Appointed to the Board were: Jim Coleman, Director of Westchester County’s Industrial Development Agency, Raphaelle Sondak, Executive Director of Human Resources for Catholic Guardian Services and Judy Meyer, former HVHC Board member and longtime Hospital supporter.

“We could not have found three more perfect candidates to round out our Board of Directors,’’ said John C. Federspiel, President of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “Each brings tremendous strengths to the board, and we look forward to working with them as the Hospital enters a new era of growth and expansion.’’

Coleman is a businessman and accomplished fundraiser. He has had a long and distinguished career working for a number of large corporations including PepsiCo, Altria and American Express, where he was responsible for business development, sales, consulting and marketing. 

Last year, Coleman was appointed as head of the Westchester County IDA and is charged with helping to lead the county’s economic development efforts by offering incentives to businesses to relocate to the county or to expand their facilities. Since his appointment he has infused over $485 million of capital through tax exempt bond financing into Westchester’s most iconic organizations thereby generating over 1,000 construction and permanent jobs for Westchester’s residents.

Coleman is a native of Kentucky and still owns Coleman Crest, a farm which has been in his family since 1888. He is a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and lives in Eastchester.

Raphaelle Sondak, a Human Resources professional, currently works as Executive Director of Human Resources for Catholic Guardian Services. She was formerly Vice President of Human Resources for the Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley in Tarrytown where she was responsible for all human resources programs.

Sondak, a Cortlandt Manor resident, has served as Director of Human Resources for a number of companies include AIFS in Stamford, Conn. and Help USA. She is member of the Society for Human Resources Management and holds a Master’s of Science degree in Human Resources from Mercy College.

Judy Meyer, a Cold Spring resident, is a retired teacher and a long time supporter of the Hospital. A graduate of Ladycliff College, Meyer completed her teaching certification at SUNY New Paltz and went on to teach in the Haldane Central School District for 33 years. She is an active member of the Cold Spring community, and has been President of the Julia L. Butterfield Memorial Library Board since 1998.

 A former board member of the Julia L Butterfield Memorial Hospital in Cold Spring, she joined the Hudson Valley Hospital Center Board immediately following the acquisition of Butterfield Hospital by HVHC.  Judy has rejoined the hospital board following a year’s hiatus when she remained a member of the hospital's Foundation Board. She and her late husband John, a former Supervisor of the Town of Philipstown, raised three sons Jeff, Jason and Josh.

Hudson Valley Hospital Center is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year. The Hospital continues to expand to serve the Hudson Valley community with 1,300 employees and 350 physicians. In 2013, the Hospital opened the new Chef Peter X. Kelly Teaching Kitchen dedicated to improving the community’s health through healthy eating. In 2012, it opened the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. This followed a $100 million expansion in 2010 with an all-private room patient tower, new lobby, gift shop and expansion of its Emergency Department, Surgery Center and Progressive Care Unit.
