Center for Sleep Medicine at Hudson Valley Hospital Center earns accreditation from AASM

Cortlandt Manor, NY - (July 24, 2014) - The Center for Sleep Medicine at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates The Center for Sleep Medicine at Hudson Valley Hospital Center on meeting the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Timothy Morgenthaler, AASM president. “The Center for Sleep Medicine at Hudson Valley Hospital is an important resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

Debbie Neuendorf, Vice President of Administration at HVHC, said that the accreditation will allow the hospital to expand and refine already excellent services provided at the center since it opened in 2012.

“The accreditation is a validation of the quality of care that we provide patients, and of the competence and expertise of our director Dr. Charles Abate,’’ said Neuendorf. “Sleep disorders are a growing concern for many people and at the root cause of larger chronic health issues. Our ability to diagnose and treat these issues contributes to general wellness in the community.”

To receive accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM.  These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.  Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
