Assumption Church to Depict Stations of the Cross on Good Friday

A cast of parishioners will gather to depict the recreation of the last hours of Jesus' walk to Calvary.

This is from the : Live Stations of the Cross to be held on Good Friday, April 6, Noon --  A costumed cast of 50-75 parishioners of the Church of the Assumption, Peekskill to include their Parochial Vicar, Father Vincent Druding as Jesus, will gather at Depew park in Peekskill at Noon to depict the Stations of the Cross.  Also, known as the Way of the Cross, this ancient devotion is practiced especially during Lent as a means of recreating the last hours of Jesus’ walk to Calvary and His crucifixion.

This is the 10th year parishioners have gathered for this devotion and, while it has grown larger through the years, this is the first time a priest will portray the role of Jesus.

Church of the Assumption has the distinction of being the only Roman Catholic Church within the city limits of Peekskill.  Her Pastor is Rev. Father John Higgins who, in November, completed a walking pilgrimage to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in support of the Parish school—Assumption School.
