Family of 5-Year-Old Boy Fighting Cancer Asks for Support

The family of Evan Maher, a 5-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with cancer in his lung and prostate, is asking the community for prayers and financial contributions.

"Many prayers are still needed. We are blessed with all the help received so far. Please continue to keep Evan in your prayers. He is having a very hard time as is his family. Very difficult to maintain some form of normal life for him and his siblings when he has to be in the hospital so often," his family wrote in a recent update via this online campaign. It's based in Putnam Valley. "Evan right before falling asleep: Mom I won't be sick at Christmas right? My son is terribly sick but even if it was a lie and God willing it won't be I told him NO, you won't be baby. I didn't have the heart to tell him I don't know...."

Donations are still being accepted. $2,375 has been raised toward the $15,000-goal.
