Adult Children and Spouses Caring For Loved Ones Receive Early Valentine Gifts

Leave the Light on Foundation, Local Restaurant, Florist and Social Worker Donate to Caregivers

CORTLANDT MANOR, NY, JANUARY 31, 2013   Those who care for an aging parent or a chronically-ill spouse give selflessly every day, so, in turn, they will receive early Valentine’s Day gifts from Leave The Light On Foundation (LTLOF) and others at their popular caregiver support groups on February 2 and February 7 in Cortlandt Manor.

“The ultimate demonstration of love is managing the care of a frail parent or anyone who needs some sort of assistance with their care,” said Carol Campbell, LTLOF Executive Director.  “In honor of Valentine’s Day, local businesses have agreed to donate gifts to local caregivers who demonstrate this type love.” New York Firehouse Grille, according to Campbell, was the first local restaurant to make a food donation commitment followed by Tastefully Yours Catering (Briarcliff). Hudson Valley Florist has agreed to deliver flowers to those attending the support group on Saturday, February 2.

Leave The Light On Foundation has also partnered with Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Colin Sandler of Medicaid Solutions who will give the gift of free advice.  “I plan to educate the caregivers about a myriad of community resources available to help keep their loved ones at home and how to pay for it,” explained Sandler.  “Many Caregivers are under the misconception that they are not eligible for Medicaid to help cover long term care costs.   In more cases than not, however, they are eligible.”
