Elections: 'Better Information' Tomorrow, Excitement for Peekskill

Wednesday night When asked about missing districts in Cortlandt and Peekskill, the Westchester County Board of Elections told Patch Wednesday afternoon that some of the machines are still not back, but there may be updated results Thursday. 

Frank Catalina (R, I, C), who has 52-percent of the votes in the mayoral race, with 18 of 22 districts reporting, said Wednesday evening he is "very elated," and "very excited" about the opportunity, not only for him, "but for Peekskill."

He said the voters "have spoken pretty clearly; they're tired of the deficit and the spending, they're tired of being stagnant and they want to move forward." 

Mayor Mary Foster, who has 48-percent of the vote, could not be reached for comment. 

"We should have better information by the end of tomorrow," she said in an email.

12:15 p.m. Wednesday Unofficial data on the Westchester County Board of Elections website still show results for 18 of the 22 districts in Peekskill and 32 of the 37 in Cortlandt. 

Patch has a call in to the board of elections for more information on when the other districts will be reporting. Here is a breakdown of the votes so far in contested elections:

  • Peekskill mayor: Frank Catalina (R, C, I) 52-percent; Foster (D, WF) 48-percent
  • Peekskill City Council: Drew Claxton (D, WF) 17-percent, Marybeth McGown (D, WF) 17-percent, and Andrew Torres (D, WF) 16-percent; Chris Hanzlick (R, C, I) 17-percent, Joe Torres (R, C, I) 17-percent and Vincent Vesce (R, C, I) 16-percent
  • Peekskill City Council, Don Bennett's unexpired term: Vivian Cyndi McKenzie (D) 51-percent and Leslie Detres (R, C) 49-percent
  • Cortlandt Town Board: Seth Freach (D) 21-percent, Debbie Costello-Carter (D) 25-percent, Theresa Knickerbocker (R, C, I) 21-percent, John Lentini (R, C) 18-percent, Domenic Volpe (I) 11-percent, Brian Pugh (WF) 3-percent
  • Cortlandt Town Justice: Shari Gordon (D, WF) 47-percent, Gerry Klein (R, I, C) 53-percent

9:15 a.m. Wednesday 
Unofficial data on the Westchester County Board of Elections website still show results for 18 of the 22 districts in Peekskill and 32 of the 37 in Cortlandt.

12:20 a.m. Wednesday
Unofficial results over 18 of the 22 districts in Peekskill show Frank Catalina (R, C, I) leading for mayor with 52-percent over incumbent Mary Foster's (D, WF) 48-percent. The races for City Council are extremely close.

In the special election for Don Bennett's unexpired termLeslie Detres (R) has 49-percent and Vivian Cyndi McKenzie (D) 51-percent.

12:05 a.m. Wednesday
In Cortlandt, 31 out of 37 districts are reporting. Unofficial results now show Debra Carter-Costello (D) and Seth Freach (D) leading the race for town board, with 25 and 22-percent of the votes, respectively.

In the town justice race, Shari Gordon (D) has 47-percent of the votes and incumbent Gerry Klein (R) has 53-percent.

11:55 p.m. Tuesday 
16 of the 22 districts are now in, according to unofficial results. Mary Foster has 1,344 votes (48-percent) and Frank Catalina 1,465 (52-percent).

Foster's running mates Drew Claxton, Andrew Torres and Marybeth McGowan received 1,327, 1,268 and 1,334 votes, respectively. On Catalina's side, Chris Hanzlik, Joe Torres and Vincent Vesce had 1,374, 1,372, and 1,338, respectively.

In the special election for Don Bennett's unexpired termLeslie Detres (R) and Vivian Cyndi McKenzie (D) are tied.

10:30 p.m. Tuesday
Eleven of the 22 districts are now in, according to unofficial results. Foster has 986 votes (49-percent) and Catalina 1,033 (51-percent).

City council results look very close.

9:50 p.m. Tuesday
Unofficial results now show two of 22 districts reporting Catalina with 163 votes (55-percent) and Foster with 132 votes (45-percent) in the Peekskill mayoral race.

9:30 p.m. Tuesday
Unofficial results are starting to come in for local races. In Peekskill, one of 22 districts is reporting for mayor—Catalina got 109 votes and Foster 101.

6:45 p.m. Tuesday
 There are contested races for everything from Cortlandt Town Board seats to the mayor of Peekskill today (Nov. 5), and polls are open until 9 p.m.
