Warming Center Opens, Flu Shots Offered for County Residents

Five things you should know for today, Jan. 24.

1.) Warming Center Opens in Peekskill

Due to prolonged frigid temperatures, the City of Peekskill will open a warming center at the Peekskill Neighborhood Center, 4 Nelson Avenue. The center will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 26.

3.) The Peekskill Historic Preservation Board Meets Tonight

The Peekskill Historic and Landmarks Preservation Board is scheduled to meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. inside the Common Council chambers. Items on the agenda include an application for a new sign in front of the rectory of the Church of the Assumption on Union Avenue and a discussion on Sav-Mor Discount Auto Parts' plans to move to a new building on Main Street. 4.) Chamber to Host Pre-Super Bowl After Hours

The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Pre-Super Bowl Business after hours from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the Firehouse Grille, located on 50 Welcher Ave. in Peekskill. There will be complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. The event is free chamber members and $20 for future members. Click here to RSVP by Jan. 28.

 5.)  Free Flu Shots for Westchester Residents

County Executive Robert P. Astorino has announced that the county health department will offer free flu shots to residents on Thursday, Jan. 24, due to the high demand for the shots and increase in flu. The shots will be given by county health department nurses at the County Center in White Plains, from 2 pm to 7 pm. Residents are encouraged to register in advance for the flu shots at www.health.ny.gov/Go2Clinic. You can also call (914) 995-7425, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
