Volunteer Appreciation Wednesdays, Hen Hud Leos Hold Clothing Drive for Midnight Run

Five things you should know for today, Jan. 2.

1.) Volunteer Appreciation Wednesdays at the Division Street Grill
The Division Street Grill, located on North Division Street in Peekskill, and Thyme, located on 3605 Crompond Rd. in Yorktown Heights, is offering volunteers 20 percent off of their food and soft drink dinner checks if they bring proof that they volunteer—anywhere. 2.) Hen Hud Leos are Collecting Supplies for Midnight Run
On Saturday, Jan. 5, the Hendrick Hudson Leos Club will go on a Midnight Run into Manhattan to deliver clothing, food, and supplies to the homeless. The club is collecting adult sized jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, long sleeve shirts, scarves, hats, snow hats, gloves, sweatpants, long pants, socks, new underwear, shoes, backpacks and any other winter clothing items that are in good condition. Those interested in donating can drop their clothing off at one the Hen Hud Leos Midnight Run drop boxes in these locations: Premier Athletic Club in Montrose, NY Firehouse Grille in Peekskill, and The Church of the Holy Spirit in Cortlandt Manor.

3.) Peekskill Interact Club Competes in MSG Varsity's Charity Champions Contest
Peekskill High School’s Interact Club is participating in Cablevision/MSG Varsity's Charity Champions contest at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. Cablevision will present a $500 check to the club for its projects to help the Salvation Army and another $1,000 check to the Salvation Army. Following the check presentation, club members will serve lunch at the Salvation Army from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.   
The club is also competing to win an additional $5,000 for the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.

4.) Chamber to Start New Year with Networking Breakfast
Today is the last day to RSVP for the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce’s networking breakfast, which takes place Thursday at the Harbor at Charles Point , located 5 John Walsh Blvd, Peekskill. Members from the Microsoft team will be on hand to demonstrate the Surface tablet; new Windows 8 software and phones; and answer questions about Windows Office 365. The event costs $15 with a paid reservation, $17 at the door and $20 for non-members. Click here to reserve a seat.

5.) Polar Plunge a Success
The This Is Me Foundation’s first annual Polar Plunge on New Years Day at the Peekskill waterfront raised more than $1,600. Check for a story with photos later today.
