Rain, Snow and Wind in Today's Forecast; Peekskill Taking Nominations for Black History Month

Five things you should know for today, Dec. 26.

A mix of rain and snow is expected to hit the area, mainly after 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Less than an inch of snow is expected earlier today, with a mix of snow, sleet, northeast winds between 18 to 23 miles per hour and gusts as high as 45mph expected to hit the area between midnight and 3 a.m. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-30s, before dropping to the high-20s later tonight. On Thursday, rain or freezing rain is expected to hit the area by noon Thursday, with rain showers continuing for the rest of the day and northeast winds between 13 to 16 mph. Wind gusts are expected to reach 32 mph. Thursdays temperatures are expected to reach a high of 43, before dropping to the mid-20s at night.

Cortlandt town hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 31. Town hall be open on normal business hours for the rest of the week and closed on New Year's Day.

 "Artisans Celebrate!," The Flat Iron Gallery's group holiday show of ceramic designs and paintings by thirteen area artists, will be on display through Dec. 30. The gallery is open noon to 6p.m. and by appointment. Call (914)734-1894 for more information.

4.) Nominations are Being Accepted for Black History Month Honorees

Every February, the City of Peekskill celebrates Black History Month by honoring outstanding black members in the community.  This honor is based on the personal or professional achievements, civic contributions or general good deeds that the nominees have done. Nominations must be received by Jan. 3. Check the attached PDF for more information on the nomination process.

5.) Chamber to Start New Year with Networking Breakfast

The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first networking breakfast of the new year on Jan. 3 at the Harbor at Charles Point , located 5 John Walsh Blvd, Peekskill. Members from the Microsoft team will be on hand to demonstrate the Surface tablet; new Windows 8 software and phones; and answer questions about Windows Office 365.
