Suburbia Roller Derby Returns With Sellout Crowd

Westchester-based Suburban Brawl takes on the Hellions of Troy.

The sellout crowd at the Yonkers PAL building was rocking as Suburbia Roller Derby's opening night pitted the Westchester-based Suburban Brawl against the Hellions of Troy on Saturday.

Sporting names including Vixen Von Bruizen, Domestic Violet and Lesley E. Visserate, the Brawl took it to the Hellions early, scoring quickly and often as their Jammers made it through Troy's defensive line time after time.

The trademark cow bells were ringing in the crowd, which numbered in the hundreds, encouraged by the humorous rantings of commentators "Sam and Stu" throughout the match.

Members of Suburban Brawl come from Ossining, White Plains, Nyack, Cortlandt Manor and Putnam. The winter season has five matches scheduled and players will make several public appearances to help promote their sport. Halftime entertainment was provided by the Nepperhan Community Center Youth Drum Corps.

Sorry I missed the match. These are so much fun to watch. And it's totally worth springing for the VIP seats.

I miss the old banked tracks, the flat tracks are not as fast and as a result the action is not as good. nothing like seeing someone getting whacked at high speed! But it is still great to see the gals out there.
