Methadone Clinic Court Battle, Cancer Support Groups and Charter School Meetings

Five things you should know for today, Feb. 21.

1.) Community Meetings Scheduled for Peekskill Charter School Proposal

A public information session will be held to discuss the proposed Guardian Academy Charter School of Peekskill on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 pm at The Elks Club, 1038 Brown Street, Peekskill.  All are welcome. For further information contact: guardianacademypeekskill@gmail.com.

2.) Hudson Valley Hospital Center and Gilda’s Club form New Support Group for Kids

Gilda’s Club and the Hudson Valley Hospital Center announced the formation of a new support group called Wednesday called “Kid 2 Kid,” which gives children ages 5-12 a safe, supportive environment to discuss how cancer has affected their lives. U.S Rep. Nita Lowey was in attendance during Wednesday’s announcement.

3.) Peekskill Officials to File Final Paperwork in Methadone Clinic Court Battle

The Peekskill Common Council announced that the final paperwork for its article 78 against the Peekskill Planning Commission’s decision to give site plan approval to the Renaissance Project’s methadone clinic proposal will be filed on Feb. 26. This announcement came after the Hudson Valley Hospital Center made public plans to close its methadone clinic.

4.) Hen Hud Library Hosts Screening of "The Dark Knight Rises"

The Hendrick Hudson Library, located on 185 Kings Ferry Rd. in Montrose, is hosting a viewing of the movie “The Dark Knight Rises” today at 1:30 p.m. as part of its weekday matinee series. The event is free.

 5.) Free Blood Pressure Screening at Hudson Valley Hospital Center
At 2 p.m. the Hudson Valley Hospital Center offers free blood pressure screenings. Details here.
