Meetings, Pet Food Drive, Peekskill Senior Honored

Five things you should know for today, Dec. 3.

1.) Peekskill Common Council Meets Tonight
The Peekskill Common Council has scheduled a work session this evening at 6:30 p.m. inside city hall. A copy of tonight’s agenda is available in one of the PDFs to the right of this story.

2.) Cortlandt Budget Meeting Scheduled for Tonight
The Town of Cortlandt is scheduling a budget meeting tonight at 7 p.m., inside Cortlandt town hall.

3.) Pet Food Collection for Sandy Victims
A team of volunteers, led by Kristin DeMarco, is holding a food and supply drive for pets affected by Hurricane Sandy.  Donations of wet cat food, cat and dog beds, non-squeak cat and dog toys, kongs, raw hides, scoopable kitty litter, and ferret hammocks can be dropped off at Cortlandt Animal Hospital, located at 1 Dogwood Rd. in Cortlandt Manor - near the rock cut, during business hours until Friday Dec. 7.  The volunteers will deliver the supplies on Sunday, Dec. 9 to Seer Farms in Jackson Township NJ. Seer Farms is fostering pets for families devastated or displaced by Sandy free of charge, until they can get their lives back together. You can also donate at www.seerfarms.org. 4.) Peekskill Resident to be Honored at Senior Hall of Fame.
Rev. Jeannette Phillips, executive vice president of Hudson River HealthCare, will be honored today during the 30th annual Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown. As a result of her efforts, the health center’s model has been duplicated in many 10 countries worldwide. She was ordained a deacon and then an elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and works extensively with community youth. The Rev. Ms. Phillips has also been executive vice president of The Preservation Company and is a board member of the Peekskill Chamber of Commerce. She has long been an advocate for food pantries and for access to affordable health care, housing and education for the disenfranchised and those afflicted with HIV/AIDS.   

5.) Orange Splot Art Spot Hosts Very Merry Maker Night
Orange Splot Art Spot, located at 1009 Park St. in  Peekskill is hosting an evening of crafting to get adults into the homemade holiday spirit & maker mood. The event costs $10 and begins at 7 p.m. Call (914) 736-1278 for more information.
