Bear Mountain Parkway Safety Meetings, a Job Seminar and a Teen Nutrition Class

Five things you should know for today, Feb. 27.

1.) Public Session Scheduled for Bear Mountain Parkway Safety Improvements

The state Department of Transportation has scheduled two public meetings centered on the safety improvements planned for the Bear Mountain Parkway. The first session takes place tonight, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the City of Peekskill Neighborhood Center, located at 4 Nelson Ave. The second session takes place Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Cortlandt Town Hall, located at 1 Heady St.

2.) Guardian Charter School Board Holds Public Session

The founding board of the proposed Guardian Foundation Charter School in Peekskill is held a public informational session. The proposed school, which is currently being reviewed by the state Education Department, would be located in the Assumption School building. Look for a story later today

3. Field Library to Host Seminar on Job Interview Techniques

Kathy Clark, who has worked with non-profits, corporations and universities, will discuss important skills for today's job market. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. inside the Field Library, located at 4 Nelson Ave. This is a free seminar, but registration is required.  Call 914-737-0010 or stop by the Reference Desk of The Field Library to register. 

4.) Hen Hud Library to Host Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Program

TeenPOWER, a workshop at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library to help teens learn to live a healthier lifestyle, is taking place today from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event, which is for teens grade 6 and up, is free, but registration is required. The library is located at 185 Kings Ferry Rd. in Montrose. Call (914)739-5654 for more information.

5.) Applications are being accepted for the Miss Ethnic Queen Pageant

An information session is being held for the Just The Place’s annual Miss Ethnic Queen pageant today at 5:30 p.m. inside the Peekskill Youth Bureau. The pageant, which is coming to Westchester County for the first time this spring, has for levels of competition:  Little, for ages 4-7; Jr. Miss, for ages 8-12; Teen Miss, for ages 13-17; and Young Miss, for ages 18-21.  Participants will be judged on appearance, performance, evening wear, and personality.
