Local Pinups, Budget Talks and a Chance to Win $100,000 for Local Schools

Five things you should know about today, Nov. 27.

1.) Peekskill Common Council Unveils 2013 Spending Plan
The Peekskill Common Council showed it’s revised budget proposal for 2013 during Monday night’s meeting. The proposal represents 3.82 percent tax levy increase from this year’s budget and 18 workers would be laid off. The Common Council will vote on the budget Thursday.

2.) Patch's Deck the House Contest
We’ve launched our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country. You could win $100,000 for your local school district and $500 to pay your electric bills, so now’s the time to get your holiday decorations out of the attic and “deck” your house.

3.) Pre-Sale Orders Available for Pinups of Peekskill 2013 Calendar
Pinups of Peekskill is debuting its 2013 classic pinup calendar. Every month will feature a local lady representing local sights, businesses, and eateries. All profits from this year’s calendar sales will be donated to Peekskill's Be First Boxing gym and their youth programs. Calendars can be pre-ordered at pinupsofpeekskill.com. Order by Dec. 1 and pay only $15. Calendars cost $20 if ordered after the Dec. 1 deadline. Sneak peaks can be seen here.

4.)  Rescuestuff Hosts Sandy Kids Toy Drive
Rescuestuff, Inc., located at 962 Washington St. in Peekskill, is still collecting toys for children affected by Hurricane Sandy until Dec. 8. People are asked to donate new, unused toys which can be dropped off at the store between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

5.) Hudson Valley Young Professionals Business Hours
Hudson Valley Young Professionals and the Gateway Chamber of Commerce’s “Business After Hours” are hosting a get together at the new Peekskill Brewery from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. The event costs $20 to attend, but is free for chamber and HVYP members. The deadline to RSVP is Monday, Dec. 3. Signup by going here.
