Intergenerational Holiday Party, FEMA Deadline Extended, Toy Collection for Sandy Survivors

Five things you should know for today, Dec. 11.

1.) Peekskill Common Council Clears Way for Eminent Domain to Be Used for New Firehouse

The Common Council passed a resolution stating requirements have been met to begin eminent domain proceedings for the central firehouse plan if they are warranted. It also accepted the final draft environmental impact statement for the plan.

2.) Intergenerational Christmas Celebration Tonight at the BeanRunner 

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Nu Psi Zeta Chapter is presenting “Generation to Generation Christmas” this evening at the BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division and Esther streets. The Intergenerational Christmas celebration, which runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will feature songs and good cheer. Admission is a toy gift that can be donated to ‘Toys for Tots’ or greetings card that can be given to a senior citizen.

3.) Toy Drive for "Breakfast with Santa" in the Rockaways

Donate a new unwrapped toy for “Breakfast with Santa in Rockaway,” taking place on Dec.15.  Toys can be for toddlers up to teenagers. Donations are being taken through Dec. 14 at  Curry Honda on Route 202 in Yorktown Heights from 9 a.m. to 8p.m., Monday - Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. They can also be dropped off at the North Highlands Fire Department on Fishkill Road in Cold Spring from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. Tuesday - Friday. 4.) Deadlines Extended for FEMA Applications

The deadline for Hurricane Sandy survivors, including those from Westchester and Putnam counties, has been extended to Jan. 28, 2013. Federal disaster assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, essential home repairs, personal property losses and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance. Individuals can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov or via smartphone or tablet at m.fema.gov. Applicants may also call 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Applicants who use 7-1-1 Relay or Video Relay Services (VRS) may call 800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week until further notice.

5.) Cortlandt Planning Board Vacancy
