1. Happy Friday the 13th
The myth of Friday the 13th comes from a belief that 13 is an unlucky number and Friday is an unlucky day. The actual origin of the superstition is unclear, although scholars believe it appears to be a tale in Norse mythology. Friday is named for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility who was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch after her people converted to Christianity. Figga was believed to hold a meeting with 11 other witches and the devil (a total of 13) every Friday.
2. Produce Tour at Peekskill Farmer’s Market Saturday
Hudson River HealthCare is hosting two produce tours at the Peekskill Farmer’s Market on Saturday July 14 and Aug. 11. today and on Aug. 16 at 9 and 11 a.m. The tours aim to teach residents how to select produce, use food for good health and eat seasonally. There will be a cooking demonstration as well. Participants will receive a free farmer’s market gift card, compliments of Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill. Healthy Culinary Creations’ Laurie Gershgorn will hold the tours. For more information call 914-261-6179.

3. Hendrick Hudson Library Teen Book Club
