1.    Congratulations Holly Haight

Congratulations to Holly Haight, who was sworn in as Chief of the Verplanck Fire Department over the weekend. This is the first time in the history of the VFD that a woman will have the title of Chief. Many know Holly as a paramedic and a fire inspector. Congratulations on your new position Holly! (Thanks to the Verplanck Residents Association for this information, which they posted on their Facebook page.)

2.    Martin Luther King Day Events

Jan. 16 is Martin Luther King Day and there are two MLK events you won’t want to miss. The Preservation Company is hosting its 8th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Dinner and Auction featuring Chapman Roberts on Jan. 15. For more information on how to order tickets, click . 3.    Valentine’s Concert for BCC Memorial Announced

The Buchanan-Cortlandt-Croton 911 Memorial committee has announced a Valentine’s Concert fundraiser for the memorial. The concert is on Feb. 12 at The Cove in Peekskill and will feature founding member and musical director of the original Brooklyn Bridge Tommy Sullivan. Appetizers and light buffet will be served. 4. Quiet Man Public House New York Times Review

Peekskill and Cortlandt continue to impress restauratne critic Emily DeNitto at the New York Times. Last month, DiNetto said that Taste was an inviting and delicious place to eat. 5. Warm Winter Weather

 The National Weather Service predicts a high near 47 today and a low around 27 tonight. Tomorrow should be around the same temperature with rain expected after midnight. Temperatures will drop down to around 38 stay near the end of the week.
