Budget Increase Approved for Peekskill Library

The Field Library's budget will increase by $17,000 to $785,000 in 2013.

A proposition calling for a two-percent budget increase for the Field Library in Peekskill was headed for a approval Tuesday.

The proposition calls for the library’s budget to increase to $785,000, which represents a $17,000 increase, next year.

The tax increase will average out to about $2 per household.

The proposition had 1,205 yes votes and 762 no votes as 2 a.m. Wednesday, with about 86 percent, or 19 out of 22, precincts reporting.

Library officials said the increase is needed to deal with growing health insurance costs and mandated state retirement system payments.

The library also anticipates a decrease in the circulation reimbursement it receives from the Town of Cortlandt.
