Budget Hearing, Boxing Gym Fundraiser and Verplanck Parade

Five things you should know today, Oct. 22.

1.) Peekskill Common Council Board Meets Tonight
The Peekskill Common Council is scheduled to meet for a work session and meeting tonight in city hall. The work session is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. A public hearing on acting City Manager Brian Havranek’s $35.6 million budget proposal is scheduled to take place during the meeting.

2.) Cortlandt Town Board Work Session
The Cortlandt town board is scheduled to have its work session tonight at 7 p.m.

3.) Be First Boxing Fundraiser
Be First Boxing is having it’s first annual holiday fundraising event on Friday, Nov. 2. The event, takes place from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, located on 138 Brown Street, Peekskill. Performers include R& B Singer Alyson Williams and Comedian Jimmy Mack. Tickets cost $35 in advance and $45 at the door. Call 914-737-3178 or 646-772-7447 for more information.

4.) Verplanck Halloween Parade This Week
The Verplanck Residents Association and the Verplanck Fire Department are sponsoring the Children's Halloween Parade this Saturday at 2 p.m. Everyone will gather at the Red Schoolhouse and march down Sixth Street, Broadway, Eighth Street to conclude at the Firehouse with refreshments.

5.) Two Gallery Shows Opened this Past Week
The BeanRunner Cafe had the opening for "The Ballot Box" Saturday. The Peekskill Arts Alliance also held a small works exhibit at the old Clemente's dry cleaners on 910 Main Street. Look for a photo gallery from Saturday's exhibits later today.
