Astorino Speaks, Best Halloween Contest and National Food Day

Five things you should know today, Oct. 24.

1.) County Executive to Hold Town Hall in Cortlandt
Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino is holding a meeting at Cortlandt town hall today at 7 p.m. Astorino will give an update on the progress his administration is making in delivering on his three major goals: providing tax relief, preserving essential services and promoting economic development.  Town hall is located at 1 Heady St., Cortlandt Manor.

2.) National Food Day at Hudson Valley Hospital
Hudson Valley Hospital Center and Hilltop Hanover Farms of Yorktown are holding  mini-farmer’s market in the hospital cafeteria and an action station, featuring seasonal and local foods, as part of National Food Day. The Hospital’s participation in Food Day is in keeping with its Harvest for Health initiative which encourages healthy eating to fight obesity and chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. As part of Harvest for Health, the Hospital created an organic demonstration garden to educate patients about healthy eating and holds a monthly Farmer’s Market featuring local farms and organic foods. The next two markets are being held on Oct. 30 and Nov. 20.

3.) Hen Hud School Board Meets Tonight
The Hendrick Hudson school Board meet tonight in the Hendrick Hudson High School Library. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. A copy of the agenda is available here.

4.) Haunted House at Uriah Hill School
A Haunted House is being held at the Uriah Hill Elementary School Oct. 25 to 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost to enter is $7.  Parents with young children should use discretion.  Eligibility is restricted to age 5 and older and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 5.) Wanted: Best Halloween Costume
