Assumption School Closes, Cold Snap Hits the Region

Five things you should know for today, Jan. 23.

1.) Assumption School Closure Announced
The Assumption School in Peekskill was one of 22 schools the Archdiocese of New York announced that it plans to close in June. The school would have needed to raise $3 million in the next three years to stay open, according to church officials. Read more here.

2.) Cold Temperatures Expected to Hit the Region Today
A dusting of snow is expected Wednesday morning and early afternoon with a high of 20-degrees. and wind chill factor -7 degrees.  Wednesday night, the temperature plunging down to ten, but wind chill factors may make it feel -2, according to the National Weather Service.

3.) Lakeland Education Foundation Bowling for Bucks
The Lakeland Educations Fundraiser at Cortlandt Bowling Lanes will be held on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m.

4.) Peekskill School Officials Explore Space Issues
An enrollment spike and the recent closing of the Assumption School in Peekskill have school officials searching for ways to maximize space in the district. The school board discussed the issues during Tuesday’s school board meeting. Read more here.
