44 Ticketed in Cortlandt Traffic Detail, Free Concert at Montrose VA Home, Hen Hud Cheerleaders to Compete Saturday

Five things you should know for Friday, Feb. 1.

1.) Speed Trap Nets 44 Arrests 

State police conducted a traffic enforcement detail on Route 9 in the Town of Cortlandt Thursday that netted 44 tickets. The majority of the tickets were issued for speeding.

2.) Hen Hud Cheerleaders Compete in Empire Championships Saturday

The Hendrick Hudson High School cheerleading team is scheduled to compete at The Empire Championships in Utica, NY Saturday. The competition takes place 4 p.m. at Herkimer High School.

3.) Peekskill Interact Club Competes in MSG Varsity's Charity Champions Contest

Peekskill High School’s Interact Club is participating in Cablevision/MSG Varsity's Charity Champions contest at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. Cablevision will present a $500 check to the club for its projects to help the Salvation Army and another $1,000 check to the Salvation Army. Following the check presentation, club members will serve lunch at the Salvation Army from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The club is also competing to win an additional $5,000 for the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.

4.) Wagner Students to Perform Free Concert for Montrose Vets 

The Wagner College Musical Theater is performing a free concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 at the state Veterans Home at Montrose . Wagner College's theater department ranks 2nd in the northeast and 5th nationally.  Bring the whole family and join the veterans for a great concert.  Contact Dr. Ed Kloos at EKloos@nysvets.org or 914-788-6175. 5.) Reception for Marlene Ferrell Parillo's "Habitats" Scheduled Saturday at the Flat Iron Gallery

Marlene Ferrell Parillo is hosting her seventh solo show at the Flat Iron Gallery in Peekskill through March 17, with reception scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Parillo is an award-winning artist that has had numerous exhibits of her work in the metropolitan area over the past decade. Her sculptures have been published in Ceramics Monthly, Clay Times Magazine and in several books about ceramics by Lark Publishing. Parillo is an art teacher at Strang Middle School in Yorktown and she has also taught art at the College of New Rochelle and the Harvey School.
