An Open Letter to the Residents of Peekskill:
It is my pleasure to introduce myself and an even greater pleasure to be back in my hometown of Peekskill. My name is Colin Bemis (and I very much look forward to introducing myself in person to as many of you as I can!) and I've recently relocated back to Peekskill after some time away.
I am a filmmaker. I grew up on Brown Street, mere feet away from the Paramount Theater. After graduating with a BA from Hunter College in Manhattan and spending some time making films here and in Los Angeles, I've been riddled with the question: where do I make my first feature? Do I do it abroad? Do I saddle up and do it in LA? Do I do it in one of the boroughs of New York City?
No. I've realized that I want to make it right here, smack in the middle of Peekskill. My aim is to make it in the Spring of 2013, and to make it a community project. I'd like to promote and invite small businesses around the city to serve as the locations for my film, and I'd like to get the city involved and excited at the prospect of the film's production. I want to help spur the already fast- paced project of urban renewal in Peekskill; I want to be a part of the city's glorious growth.
I look forward to providing you all with the copious amount of details involved, but for now, please allow this to serve as an introduction to what will most assuredly be an exciting and productive year ahead!
Best Wishes,
Colin Bemis
