Young Professionals to Live, Give, Work and Play in Hudson Valley

Launch party for the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce chapter of the Young Professionals kicked off greater youth involvement in the Hudson Valley.

Dozens of local young professionals eagerly joined their “well-seasoned” counterparts at a launch party of the northern Westchester chapter of the Hudson Valley Young Professionals (HVYP) at last week.

The chapter is an effort to encourage young members of the region’s business community to play more active roles with the Chamber and local organizations; and to form professional relationships. Young people between 21 and 40 can join for free if their employer is already a member of the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, or pay a $50 annual fee. The group will hold networking events, business forums, community outreach events and participate in larger community gatherings like the Dragon Boat races at Peekskill Celebration.

The founders of the HVYP believe that this will help members grow professionally and personally; will keep them living and working in the Hudson Valley, and will help give young people more influence on the region’s future.

“Last year, I was attending one of the local (Chamber) events and noticed a significant lack of a participation of young professionals within the chamber and taking a broad look, noticed that same thing within the community as a whole,” said Luigi Manente, 29-year-old co-chair of the Hudson Valley Young Professionals (HVYP), and sales development manager for Cartwright & Daughters Tent and Party Rentals.

The HVYP looks at the “well-seasoned,” (as Manente referred to his older counterparts) leaders of the business community as role models who can offer insightful advice, guidance, and connections.

Manente explained that he wants the group to prepare the young to take the helm and help drive the growth and development of the region, as their elders retire.

“"This is what it's all about, to expand and grow and keep our people here; keep our young professionals here in the Hudson Valley," said Frank Castella, Chairman of the Dutchess Chamber of Commerce Chairperson and former HVYP chair. The HVYP in Dutchess has been active for the last five years and has thrived in that time. Castella and other members of the Dutchess HVYP helped Westcester County group get started and many attended the launch party last week.

The Westchester chapter functions under the umbrealla of the . They have five subcommittees to plan events pertaining to social networking, education and professional development, public policy perspectives and community outreach opportunities.

Their slogan is to Live, Give, Work and Play in the Hudson Valley, explained Aisha Kutter, co-chair of the HVYP and President of the Kutter Group LLC.

“Live, recognizing that the unique character and wonderful assets of our area makes the region the ideal place to establish one’s roots;

Give, the local community thrives with non-profit entities dependent on the support of the professional outreach and the HVYP works diligently to give back to a community that gives us so much;

Work, embracing regional career opportunities because of the economic success and strength of the region;

Play, enjoying the Hudson Valley’s recreational, natural and historic resources,

Stay, understanding the Hudson Valley is ‘home.’ It is the place where young professionals will want to remain for generations to come.”

HVGCC Director Deb Milone welcomed the crowd of business people, thanked Castalla for his help getting their HVYP started and told the group, “this is going to be big, this is going to be great.”

People ages 21-40 interested in joining can get more information on the Gateway Chamber website

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.

That's exactly right. It was a business decision that your Republican buddies supported whole-hogRead More with their sneaky silence. The real issue is that your Republican buddies are as dirty as the day is long and they're of the same mold as this lousy administration. Check out my first post. You political blowhards don't give a rat's whisker about the taxpayers in this city. Seems Frank can't even get his allegiance straight. He's defending a "highly respected" Planning Board. Interesting choice of words. By his own admission, he's defending those "100% Dems." Forensic Audit all the way. And take it back to the last 10 years. Mr. Goodson, stick to writing Uncle Vinnie's press releases.

Pay attention Mary Jane (or is it Darrin, Mary, Michael, Marina). It is the Peekskill CommonRead More Council, Zoning Board and Planning Commission (100% dems) that allowed the clinic to come to Peekskill. The hospital merely made a business decision to not to continue to lose $1/4 million dollars a year by not renewing the contract with the clinic management. The hospital had no role in where it went. Stop trying to deflect the real issue. Its not going to work.

Rose, why is it that you would call me a name? Why not have a productive debate about the issueRead More instead of name call? I'm sure the anti-gun lobby does not like those numbers- but they are the facts. I know it flies in the face of all of the propaganda- millions of gun purchases and gun crime goes down? This is what we've been saying all along. Leave my natural rights as affirmed by the Constitution alone.

Go away, you Troll.

Plenty of laws on the books- they are obviously working ok, and would probably work even better ifRead More vigorously enforced.

I stand by my statement- until these contracts are fully re-negotiated and the unions startRead More contributing to their benefits and taking zero % or minimal raises, the taxes will continue to increase year after year- Buchanan will no longer be the so-called "bargain" some claim it is.
Sick of the Lies May 10, 2013 at 10:04 am
Hey Fly, before you make comments, you should check the facts. The contracts are alive and well.Read More Mr. Donahue should try learning to read and checking the facts before sending his brilliant letters to the editor in for publishing. They are almost always entirely fictional....but perhaps he really believes what he says. Yeah, right. He intentionally makes up stories to sucker people like you into believing his nonsense.

All of those lucrative 2% contract raises have since expired! DUH. Unlike the 15% raises yourRead More glorious mayor has doled out with great regularity.
