Yorktown residents are having mixed reactions about Buca di Beppo, the neighborhood-style restaurant with an Italian menu, that is in Westchester County at the  in Yorktown.

The planned eatery, expected to open during the 2012 holiday season, would occupy 6,564 square-feet and be situated prominently off the mall’s main entrance.

The news sparked different reactions among Patch readers – some expressing excitement that an empty space would be filled, while others weren't happy with the soon-to-be new dining option.

"All I can say is 'It's about time,' Terri Zumatto wrote in a comment to . "The [Jefferson Valley Mall] has had no dining options for years and no dine-in restaurant for over a decade."

Readers said they were happy to see a new restaurant open, rather than seeing stores closing.

"I have long hoped for an improved mall," Mary Farrell Murphy said. "I live right near it, have four children and would welcome more stores, better anchor stores, a theater and a restaurant so that we don't have to travel to the Cortlandt Town Center."

Frank Scalzo wrote on the Yorktown-Somers Patch Facebook page that he didn't think the restaurant was a good idea.

"One thing we aren't lacking in this neighborhood is Italian restaurants," Scalzo wrote. "And will a chain be able to hold up to our local, family Italian restaurants? I guess we will see. Something along the lines of a Friday's would have been a better fit."

Which bookstore? B&N isn't opening new stores, especially when they have one so close.

Movie theater for sure! CVS and a non-chain bookstore would be great. Whole Foods or Trader Joe's attached would be phenomenal! Legal Seafood and Chipotle! Christmas Tree Shop too!

They were talking about a 50k square foot stand-alone building, but I think it's more likely for a Dicks Sporting Goods than a grocery. I think they need to prove that they have the customer traffic before they can bring one of those. I doubt there is room for Target due to space and wetlands.

Has anyone noticed if there is actually work being done at the mall where Buca di Beppo is supposed to be going? I've posted on the mall's FB page but gotten no response. It should have been open by now, or at least very soon. I wonder if it died a quiet death before going very far.
