Mohegan Lake Salon Raises Money for Hurricane Sandy Victims

Shear Design Salon donated the proceeds from all of its sales between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday to the American Red Cross.

Clients showed up at Shear Design Salon in Mohegan Lake Friday for a good hair cut and a good cause.

The salon donated the proceeds from all of its business, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to the American Red Cross to help individuals still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.

"We were really hurt when Hurricane Sandy hit," said Rita Rexhaj, the owner of Shear Design. "So many people were hurt, especially in New York. I just felt, from my heart, that i wanted to give and try and help them. I also had clients who were hurt by Hurricane Sandy, so I just wanted to help."

Rexhaj, whose salon has been open in Mohegan Lake for 5 years,  said she held a similar event last year to help Support Connections, breast and ovarian cancer support organization in Yorktown,and raised about $2,000.

Rexhaj said she didn't have a fundraising goal on Friday.

"We're just going to go out and do the best we can," she said.
