VIDEO: Healthy Food Promotes Healthy Life at HVHC Farmer's Market

The Hudson Valley Hospital Center opened a monthly farmer's market Tuesday.

The opened a local farmer's market in the front parking lot Tuesday, the start of a regular market to run through November on the last Tuesday of every month. Hospital officials say the market is a continuation of HVHC's healthy eating initiative and hopes to educate the community, hospital visitors, staff and patients on the value of eating fresh, natural food.

A volunteer committee set up the market and about 15 local vendors sell produce, cheese, bread, meat and other naturally-grown items. The market will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and Nov. 20.

This is amazing!! So glad to see this going on in the area. I only wish these markets would happen on weekends, times when people are not at work and are able to "splurge" on healthy, organic fare. My husband and I work in NYC and find it disappointing when most Farmer's Markets around our area are taking place during the weekday when we're (and others who I'm sure would love to) are unable to go. I would absolutely LOVE to hear this amazing idea roll out and perhaps a Saturday be added. I'm sure others would be so pleased as well so they can partake and the vendors ..... more business for them!!

I know the City of Peekskill has a Farmer's Market on Saturday. It is difficult for the Hospital to run on Saturday's since much of the staff is not here to run it, but its not out of the question. I'm sure it's something we can consider once we see how well this flies.
