Business Briefs: Openings and Closings

Tarrytown Japanese and a new Sleepy Hollow grocery store are among the new businesses opening soon.

Still waiting – any second now! – on Osaka Steak House and Sushi Bar in the Tarrytown Centre. They thought they might be open by Christmas day, but business owners should know better than to ever give a definite date when so many things might not line up with their plans (like getting final approvals.)

Until they open, there’s menus outside for the taking and they promise:

A wide range of soups, appetizers, salads, special rolls, hand rolls, maki, sushi/sashimi, teriyaki, tempura, noodles, bento boxes, hibachi entrees, and lunch specials.

Lunch specials include: sushi lunch $11, two rolls for $9, three for $11, lunch bento $9.50, and hibachi lunch for $8 to $13.

Use the coupon on the menu to get 15% off as part of their Grand Opening Special.

Their info: 914/631-8888, Mon-Thurs, 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m; Fri-Sat, 11:30 a.m. – 11 p.m., Sun, 1:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. www.osakatarrtyown.com

There’s a new grocery store, La Esquina Latina, coming to Sleepy Hollow’s inner village. It's under construction in a corner building at Valley and College Streets.

**

Rock Island Sound is soon moving into bigger digs in the Mason’s Building at 54 Main Street.

**

In case you haven’t noticed, Edible Arrangements shuttered a while back. A sign in the window points customers to their Eastchester locations to place orders at 914-202-9123.

**

Sigh, still no tenant Tarrytown Gourmet.

**

Believe!? . Enzo Simone is putting the finishing touches on a space that people will flock to soon, promise.

**

Kosmos has quietly changed names to Book Tonix. Owner Jos Niforos said he "got tired of people coming in and thinking my name was Kosmo!" He also noted that the shop is now open only on the weekends from 12-6 pm, which gives him the time to focus on his thriving online book business.

**

Horseman Restaurant, though they promised to be reopen by now, is still closed.

**

RiverMarket is on the way to Tarrytown waterfront soon.

Until then you can get a fancy sneak park at this grand space at the Chamber's next networking event:

The Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce will be presenting, Grand NETWORKING, Food Wine and Beer Event, Thursday, January 17, 2013, from 5:30 till 8:30pm at the newly constructed Hudson Harbor Lodge (across from the Metro North, Tarrytown Train Station, at Hudson Harbor, 41 Hudson View Way, Tarrytown, New York, 10591, the venue sponsor.

This event will feature prepared buffet style food items from local restaurants. Crabtree’s Kittle House will introduce the upcoming RiverMarket which will soon open at the waterfront property of Hudson Harbor. Food, wine, beer, spirits and music (by Chris Reising) are included with admission. There's a raffle to support the Food Pantry of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, and of course, brings lots of business cards.

Also on the river: Striped Bass is coming back soon, slated to reopen at the beginning of March following a huge wet slap in the face from Hurricane Sandy. Let's all welcome then again.

Some updates: Osaka is now open for lunch and dinner daily (follow the flags in Tarrytown Centre) and Horseman, I'm told, is really coming soon (for real, this time.) Says Manager Melissa Smutek: Yes we actually just got approved to open by the health department. We plan on hiring this week and hopefully opening the 28th but there is still no definite date." Stay tuned!
