Saint Patrick’s Day Parades in Peekskill, Buchanan, White Plains and Mahopac

When/Where:  In Peekskill, the  kicks off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, starting at the Fire House on S. Division St.

In Buchanan, the parade kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11.

Saturday, March 10, the 15th annual White Plains St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at the intersection of Mamaroneck Ave & Old Mamaroneck Rd at 12 noon.

Why Go:  Celebrate Irish culture and the Irish spirit with these local parades. Enjoy Irish dancers, bagpipes, bands, marching organizations, and more.

Live from Hen Hud, It's Still Saturday Night

When/Where:  

Why Go: All six Hendrick Hudson PTAs are throwing this entertaining event to raise money for the schools. The night will feature gambling tables and Buchanan Police Sgt. Mike Guida (WHUD's Bravest vs. Finest comedy finalist) on the mic. 

Price: $70, Price includes admission to the show, a cocktail hour with an open bar, dinner with wine & beer and desserts. (Full cash bar available all evening.)


Sugaring Sundays

When/Where:  Sunday March 11, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. at 

Why Go: It is sugaring time at Teatown. From tapping to collecting, boiling to bottling, Teatown’s naturalists will be in Warren’s Sugarhouse sharing facts and folklore about this sweet time of year.

Price:  Free for members; $5 for nonmembers

 

The Homegrown String Band

When/Where:  Sunday, March 11, 2 p.m. at the 

Why Go: Come see The Homegrown String Band who will perform a folk music concert in the Constance Dyckman Community Room.

Musical Fundraiser to Support Local Arts

When/Where: Saturday, March 10 at 8 p.m. at Studio Two, 814 South Street, Peekskill

Why go: The Friends of Antonia Arts Inc., present an evening of outstanding performances featuring special guests Daisy Jopling (of Peekskill), Gabrielle Sansone (of Mohegan Lake), Melody Wolford, Sarah Knapp and Steve Alter. 

Antonia Arts Academy is a professionally run performing arts academy located in Peekskill. It provides scholarships and low cost programs for the kids who cannot afford dance or acting lessons or don't have the means to be exposed to concerts. This fundraiser will help support children’s musical theater and performing arts programs along with several other events open to the artist community in Peekskill and beyond. 

Price: $50 per person. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for wine and hors d’oeuvres

Tom Chapin's Birthday Concert in Tarrytown

When/Where:  Saturday, March 10, 1 p.m. at 

Why Go: In a concert for the whole family, Tom Chapin performs on Saturday. In a career that spans five decades, 22 albums and three Grammy awards, the multi-talented singer-songwriter-guitarist has worked as a recording artist and concert performer and has acted on Broadway, on television, radio and in films.

Price: Tickets are $20 and $30 and a donation of non-perishable food to be donated to a local food bank is requested.

 

An American Journey at The Merestead Estate in Mount Kisco

When/Where: Sunday, March 11, 3 p.m. at The Merestead Estate

Why Go:  Copland House at Merestead presents the acclaimed young composer Dan Visconti's work, Americana, which was inspired by soaring lyrics from beloved American songs – America the Beautiful; Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean; Yankee Doodle Dandy; This Land is Your Land; and The Star-Spangled Banner. Also, Joshua Roman, "a cellist of extraordinary technical and musical gifts" (San Francisco Chronicle), joins acclaimed pianist Zsolt Bognar to perform. Pianist, Copland House Artistic and Executive Director Michael Boriskin teams up with Roman for Westchester master Samuel Barber's impassioned 1936 classic, Sonata for Cello and Piano. Visconti, a former Copland House resident composer, will introduce his work, and lead an audience Q&A.

Price: Tickets are $25, $20 (Friends of Copland House), $10 (students w/ID)

 

Journal News Golf Show at The County Center

When/Where:  Saturday, March 10-Sunday, March 11 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the 

Why Go: The 2012 Journal News Golf Show will feature golf merchandise, free lessons and tips from pros as well as information about Westchester County's six prestigious 18-hole golf courses. There will be hourly talks and demonstrations from experts, including short lessons on chipping and putting and practice putting green courtesy of Armonk's Home Green Advantage. Visit the Executive Women's Golf Association, get golf vacation information and see new golf products for 2012.

Price: $9; seniors, $8; children under 12 free. Parking is $5

 

Free Financial Education Day at Westchester Community College

When/Where: Saturday, March 10, 2012, 8:30 a.m. at Westchester Community College

Why Go:  This is an opportunity for a private consultation on issues that matter to you. Experts from the Financial Planning Association and highly-qualified professionals will be available to assist you with basic financial planning or more specialized advice on retirement planning, investment strategies, estate planning, tax issues, insurance, or paying for college. Keynote speaker is Jean Chatzky, an award-winning journalist, best-selling author and financial editor for NBC’S Today Show.

A Friendly Gathering 2012 Irish Sing-Along Honors Peace Outside Campus, The Lindsey M. Bonistall Foundation

When/Where:  Saturday from 6:30 - 10:30 p.m. at the 

Why Go:  A Friendly Gathering Irish Sing-Along is hosted by RDC—a non-profit organization that offers counseling services. The Msgr. Ed O’Brien Community Service Award will be given to Peace Outside Campus, The Lindsey M. Bonistall Foundation, for their dedication to promoting peaceful and safe living environments in off-campus college communities nationwide. Lindsey Marie Bonistall, a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy High School, lost her life to violent crime in 2005; the organization was founded in her honor.

The Friendly Gathering features a corned beef and cabbage dinner, Irish songs by premier Sligo-style fiddler, Brian Conway, and his group with Liz McNicholls, and a performance by The O’Rourke Academy of Irish Dance as well as a live auction.

Price: Tickets are $40 per person in advance and $45 at the door; seniors: $30 in advance/$35 at the door. Reservations are recommended: 798-1106

 

New York to Paris, Paris to Paradise: Vocal Rising Stars at Caramoor

When/Where: Sunday, March 11, 2012, 4 p.m. at 

Why Go: Members of Caramoor's 2012 Vocal Rising Stars program along with pianists Steven Blier and Michael Barrett will perform Poulenc, Weil, Gershwin, Porter, Musto, Bolcom, Bernstein and more.

Listen to some New Yorkers' and Parisians' eloquent hymns to their hometowns and their dream vacations: Americans in Paris, Parisians in exotic climes. Featuring songs by Ned Rorem, Charles Trenet, Darius Milhaud, Albert, Roussel, George Gershwin and others.  Presented in the Music Room of the Rosen House, but less formal than other concerts, Caramoor Classics are appropriate for families and will include comments from the artists about the program.

Price:  Tickets: $25. These concerts are recommended for children 8 and above.
