Maria Driscoll McMahon’s performance piece, “Private Properties,” will take place at the museum during the opening reception on Sunday. Also activating the museum space with performance art this weekend is the collaborative project “Correlate Knitting,” a communitybased work about the present and historical culture of knitting in the Hudson Valley conceived of Priscilla Dobler & Maureen McCourt. The artist duo has worked with a diverse group of knitters from throughout the Hudson Valley to create this large-scale installation performance. Each volunteer knitter was asked to create a panel that representedthe distance from their home to the historic Ornsby Knitting Co. in Waterford, NY. From 2-6pm Saturdayand Sunday, Dobler and McCourt will be in the museum continuously knitting the collected panels to their own panels, which represent the distance from their hometowns of Tacoma, Washington and Missoula, Montana to the historic factory, creating a long strip that stretches through the museum, evocative of the Hudson River itself. Museumgoers are invited to engage in conversation with them.

In our Video Room, past HVCCA Artist in Residence Itziar Barrio presents a recent videoproject "We Could Have had it All." In this multilayered digital video, Itziar Barrio takes a line borrowed from popular music as the departure point for an elaborate exploration of performance, language, politics, and sexuality. Drawing its title from the chorus of British pop star Adele’s 2011 smash single, “Rolling in the Deep,” the work pays homage to the global appeal of Adele’s music while inquiring into the myth-like notion of total fulfillment.
