La Lavandería is a stunning show of art and community through the lenses of photographers from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

This touring exhibit is an artistic explosion of understanding, appreciation, and discovery. With over 40 full‐size prints “hung out like underwear,” La Lavandería invites the public to see the intimate portrait, landscape, and abstract photography of the acclaimed artists, and discuss the obvious and subtle artistic themes and social implications within the work.

The show is organized by Steel Imaginations and will be curated by sculptor Wilfredo Morel and filmmaker Nick Cannell. La Lavandería will be on display through January 2012, and will have a closing party during Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday week to include his profound messages of community and righteousness and that are more relevant than ever more than 40 years after his assassination. The goal of the artists and The H‐Art Gallery is to create a photographic bridge for all to traverse and arrive at a place of personal and familial growth.

Proceeds from the show benefit Hudson River HealthCare (www.hrhcare.org), a network of 18 community health centers providing quality, affordable health care to those in need, including the region’s migrant and seasonal farmworkers living and working along the Hudson River and Eastern Long Island. Light fare and wine will be served.

The H–Art Gallery is located at 1 S. Division Street in Peekskill, and is open Monday through Friday 10AM‐7PM, Saturday 2‐7PM, or by appointment.
