CHORALE MEETS CHOREOGRAPHY – Not Just Another Song and Dance”” an original production of American Musical Masterpieces will be presented through an exciting combination of classic dance and choral music at the Paramount Center for the Arts on April 29 at 8:00pm. The collaborative event  will feature the music of Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Cole Porter with original dance accompaniment.  This innovative, creative, one-time only production will be presented by Antonia Arts, the not-for-profit dance and theatre company based at Studio Two in Peekskill NY and the Taghkanic Chorale, a non-profit, non-sectarian, community-based chorus, comprised of talented singers from Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange and the mid-Hudson Valley.  Tickets for the April 29th performance are: General Admission $25 Seniors/Students/ Ages12 and under  $23. Both the Taghkanic Chorale and Antonia Arts are recent recipients of Arts Alive grants through ArtsWestchester and the New York State Council on the Arts

The selected  pieces for the program  lend themselves to an inspiring collaboration.  Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” is noted for its beauty, expression and musical difficulty. Copland’s “In the Beginning” is a masterpiece of the choral repertory and based upon verses from  the second chapter of Genesis..   Rounding out the program will be musical theatre selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein and Cole Porter.

“I am very happy to bring a performance of this kind to the Paramount”, said Scarlett Antonia, creative director of Antonia Arts.  “I believe in the arts as a  collaborative process.  And through this process, we are combining both dance and music by two of our community’s most respected and talented arts organizations.” Antonia Arts recently staged critically acclaimed sold-out performances of Annie and CATS at the Paramount.

“We were thrilled when we were approached with the idea, Steven Fox, the musical director of the Taghkanic Chorale, stated. “We are bringing the finest of music and dance to the Paramount stage through this unique collaborative effort”. Mr. Fox is also the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Clarion Music Society, and has served as Acting Director of Music at Trinity Church, Wall Street and as Associate Conductor at the New York City Opera.

The Taghkanic Chorale will also be performing at the Paramount Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 9th at 8:00 pm as the opening act for the Persuasions.
