Aztec Two-Step: The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook

On Sunday, March 27, the Ossining Library Foundation will present acoustic folk duo Aztec Two-Step at 2pm in the Budarz Theater at the Ossining Public Library. The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook features Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman’s harmonious interpretations of classics such as “Mrs. Robinson,” “Cecelia,” “The Sound of Silence” and “The Boxer,” interwoven with dynamic and colorful anecdotes of the 1960s and 1970s with Pete Fornatale, radio host of Mixed Bag on WFUV and XM Radio. Reservations are not required for this free concert and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Ossining Public Library is located at 53 Croton Avenue in Ossining. For more information, call (914) 941-2416 or visit http://ossininglibrary.org/. The concert, part of an on-going music series curated by Ossining resident Alan Marzelli, is also a ‘food-raiser’ for the Ossining Food Pantry. Guests are invited to bring non-perishable food which will be donated to the Pantry.

Aztec Two-Step has inspired audiences for nearly four decades with their blend of intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar, and ethereal harmonies. Staples of progressive FM and college radio, the duo possesses a rich musical legacy spanning 14 studio albums and numerous television appearances including Late Night with David Letterman, and were the subject of the PBS documentary No Hit Wonder: The Aztec Two-Step Story in 1999. Renowned for bridging folk rock into the 1970s and beyond, Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman continue to be one of acoustic music’s most respected and enduring acts and have shared the stage with a wide variety of acts from The Band, Allan Ginsberg and Bruce Springsteen to Jimmy Buffett, Peter Frampton and Randy Newman.

The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook is hosted by WFUV radio personality Pete Fornatale. One of the architects of progressive FM radio, Fornatale is the host of “Mixed Bag,” which can be heard on WFUV and nationally on XM Radio’s The Loft (Channel 50). He is the author of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bookends (Rodale, 2007), a celebrated retrospective of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel’s personal, professional and artistic partnership. Filled with never-before-disclosed details, Simon & Garfunkel’s Bookends chronicles the events leading up to the folk duo’s split in 1970, beginning with the April 1968 release of “Bookends.”
