Waterbury Parkway Closed for Pipe Replacement

Detour facilitates repair work at site where stream flows under the road.

A section of Waterbury Parkway near Cortlandt Town Hall has been closed to through traffic to permit replacement of deteriorated pipes carrying a stream under the road.

All but local Waterbury traffic is being detoured via Eton Downs from the “T” intersection near Town Hall to the three-way intersection of Waterbury, Eton and Park Drive. Construction work and the detour began Wednesday morning and are expected to continue for a few days, according to a telephone message from the town to residents of the area.

A single large pipe will replace three smaller pipes that were prone to clogging from debris, which in turn contributed to erosion and occasional flooding. In recent weeks a metal plate has covered a gap in the pavement on the west side of Waterbury Parkway, also known as The Oval.

The stream flows through the Waterbury Manor neighborhood and under Oregon Road before joining the Peekskill Hollow Brook, which in turn leads to the Hudson River.
