Treat Mom to Brunch for Mother's Day

CLASSIC FRENCH WITH A VIEW: (Cortlandt) 

The elegant restaurant at one of America’s loveliest private golf courses is finally open to the public.  

Robbyn Sciullo, director of sales, explains that “The dining room was originally restricted to club members and open to the public only for special events. But people raved so much about the food that we decided to share our chef with the community.”

Classically trained Chef Rivalisi comes to The Woods after years of experience at some of Westchester’s most prestigious restaurants, including La Panetière, Maxime’s and Le Chateau. 

Mother’s Day brunch, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer an assortment of stations – country breakfast, French specialties, omelet variations, inventive salads, a carving board and scrumptious desserts. Bon appetit!

Price range: Adults, $38.50; children 12 and under, $16.50; 5 and under, no charge. 

HISTORIC AND ELEGANT: (Yorktown) 

Tucked into the woods right across the road from Gen. George Washington’s command post during the Revolutionary War, this enchanting Colonial-era home has been an operating inn for almost 100 years. The New York Times praised its “hospitality” and called the food “reliable, hearty and delicious.” Zagat’s said, “You’re in for a treat.”

Owner Jonathan Pratt and Executive Chef Nicolas DiBona present an American cuisine with international influences. Family dining begins at 1 p.m. on Mother’s Day and continues all day long. Ye olde good time!

Price range:  Most entrees are in the $25-30 range. Children’s specials will be available. 

YOUNG AND HIP:  (Peekskill) 

No question about it – the focus here is beer! They brew their own, right in the heart of Peekskill’s historic waterfront district – and it adds a unique tone to the ambience. It’s casual and friendly with the spirit of a German beer garden.   

Start dining at 11 a.m. on Mother’s Day and choose from a menu including oysters, burgers, steak frites, fish and chips, plus a few more substantial entrees. In addition to the house brews, there are many local micro beers and a huge range of imported and special brews. An excellent array of wines and spirits is also available. Prosit! 

Price range: Entrees from $10 to $20. 

TRADITIONAL AND CONSISTENT: (Cortlandt)

Family-owned and operated for 30 years, this local landmark is popular for its handsome dining room, known as the Grill Room, and its fabulous ballroom, site of many gracious special events. The cuisine is “New American” with Mediterranean overtones.  

There will be four champagne brunch seatings on Mother’s Day: 11:15 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Made-to-order omelets, pancakes, smoked salmon, an assortment of pasta dishes and the chef’s signature slow roasted prime rib are just a few of the choices. The dessert table will feature cakes, cookies and a chocolate fondue station. Even mimosas are included. Cin-cin! 

Price range: Adults, $29.95; children under 12, $15.95. 

OLD WORLD ETHNIC:  (Yorktown) 

A touch of old authentic Europe right in Yorktown Heights, family-run Jennifer’s has been serving continental German cuisine for more than 30 years.

Viennese chef started his cooking career at the age of 14, and has perfected his skills in kitchens from Montreal to Anchorage. Ingredients are all natural; dishes range from the rich Bavarian platter (roast pork, bratwurst, sauerkraut and bread dumpling) to a light salmon filet with ginger and citrus. Desserts are fantastic. Guten appetit! 

Save your appetite Sunday morning. Mother’s Day service will start at 2 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m.  

Price range: Entrees between $19 and $30. 

FOR THE JAZZY MOM: (Peekskill)

For more than a decade this classy downtown grill has been a favorite of music lovers from all over. The eclectic menu offers seafood, beef, poultry, pasta and salads prepared by experienced chefs and served by an attentive staff.

Mother’s Day brunch, served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will include eggs benedict, waffles, smoked salmon, various omelets, home fries, peel and eat shrimp, sliced steak, poached salmon, a dessert bar and more. Mimosas are included in the price.

And – while you are enjoying your tribute to Mom you will entertained by live jazz music. Encore!

Price range: Adults, $32.95; children 10 and under, $15.95.

GOOD FOR A GROUP: (Yorktown) 

If you have a large group celebrating Mother’s Day, the family-style service at Piatto Grill is made to order. A pasta platter, for example, serves three or four people while the chicken and veal dishes serve two to three. The menu is a melange of Mediterranean and Argentine specialties, with emphasis on Italian cuisine. The New York Times said, “No one leaves Piatto hungry” and commended the chef for pasta dishes that are truly al dente. 

Mother’s Day dining will start at 1 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. Buon Appetito! 

Price range: Family-style entree portions from $20 to $40.
