Santa Comes to Town

Verplanck and Buchanan tree lightings and Santa visit.

Santa traded in his sleigh for a firetruck this weekend as he made the rounds through Buchanan and Verplanck Dec. 4.

About 250 Buchanan residents gathered at the village circle at 5 p.m. where they heard songs from the Trinity Boscobel Church Choir and Through the Looking Glass. Mayor Sean Murray thanked the community, Nancy Bayer, the Buchanan Engine Company #1 and local girl and cub scouts for their help with the event.

Dozens of local goods and services were raffled off, including a Christmas tree from Buchanan Home Center.

Afterwards at the Village Hall, children sat on Santa's lap to tell him what they want for Christmas and enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate.

At the Verplanck Fire Department on 8th street, a small crowd gathered to meet Santa and watch the Department light up up a tree of holiday lights. Santa sang a few songs and then rode off on the fire truck to go make more toys, he said.
