Rocky Horror, Boo at the Zoo, Costume Party, 2nd Nature Sk8 Jam

Things to do on the scariest weekend of the year.

Boo at the Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park

When/Where:  Saturday October 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Rain date: Oct. 30) at Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park

Why Go: This is family-friendly fun for a fall day. Make holiday snacks for black bears at 10:30 a.m. and watch as the zookeepers let them loose on the tasty Halloween decorations at 11 a.m.  Throughout the day, you’ll touch real animal skulls, see stuffed specimens in the Nature Study museum and learn about owls and vultures.

When/Where: Uriah Hill Elementary School, Pemart Ave., Peekskill. Oct. 27-29 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Go if you like to shriek, be surprised and to stumble across terrifying things in the dark. Volunteers through the city's Parks and Recreation Department have spent six weeks preparing a haunted house that is sure to scare you. There are eight main attractions, 50 actors who will be scaring (and maybe chasing) you down bloodied school hallways, and elaborate lights and music, making it a real professional haunted experience. Ages 5 and up, but parent's discreation is strongly advised. It is not for the easily frightened.

Price: $6 at the door.

 

12 Grapes 4th Annual Halloween Costume Party

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 29, 9:30 p.m. at 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division Street, Peekskill

Why Go: If you have been planning a killer costume and like Aerosmith, this is the party to go to. An Aerosmith Cover Band, Get Your Wings, will be playing, and you can win a $75 gift certificate to 12 Grapes if you win the costume contest.

Price: $10 Cover

 

2nd Nature Sk8 Jam

When/Where: Oct. 29, 5 p.m. at 2nd Nature Skate Park at 1 Highland Industrial Park, Peekskill

Why Go: Several chances to win cool prizes in the best trick contest, best costume contest and by playing other games for prizes.

Price: $15 to skate, $5 to hang

 

 Music on The Farm

When/Where:  Sunday, October 30, 3 p.m. at the Lodge, _Tilly Foster Farm,_ 100 Route 312, Brewster 

Why Go:  Three sisters who are now principal harpists with major US orchestras are all graduates of Carmel High School where their mother was a long-time music teacher. Nancy Allen, one of the sisters, will perform a program with her trio that will include music by Bach, Rota, Faure, Persichetti, Ravel and Debussy's Trio Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp.

Price:  $30 general admission, $15 for members

 

Lincoln Museum Restoration Preview

When/Where: Oct. 29, 6-8 p.m. at the Lincoln Depot Museum – N. Water Street and Central Avenue

Why Go: See history being preserved at the site where Abraham Lincoln stopped on his way to Washington D.C. The Lincoln Depot Museum has been building this site for the last several months and has made significant progress turning the old depot into a modernized Lincoln museum.

Price: $50, food and drinks will be served, provided by local establishments

 

Rocky Horror Picture Show

When/Where: Treasures & Tales, 139 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, 7:30 p.m., Oct. 29

Why Go: Adults looking for something fun to do this Saturday?  Why not hang out with Brad and Janet and Dr. Frank-N-Furter.  Experience the Rocky Horror Picture Show - a notorious horror parody — a fast-paced mix of camp, sci-fi and rock ‘n’ roll movie with us at Treasures & Tales on a big movie screen.

When/Where:  Saturday, October 29, 10 a.m. at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, meet at Trailside Nature Museum

Why Go:  Soak in the autumn colors, enjoy the gorgeous views on an invigorating trail walk. Join the Trailside Nature Museum staff to check out fall foliage on the Pound Ridge Reservation.
